Even from a vantage point this far north (950 N Mich), this tower is showing its presence. Essex continues to impress me.

I must have missed the topped out memo, I didn't realize it was that close. Looks great in person and a fantastic addition to that part of the city.

Essex standing out in the morning skyline.

Wow, it makes an amazing impact on the south side of the skyline. Really helps tie together the Michigan/Roosevelt mini-peak with the rest of the skyline north of Congress.

I'm drawing a blank on anything getting built there

Oh duh, when he first made the getting I thought he was talking about something getting built there. To me they are both far too small to really fill any gaps, but better than empty spaces I guess.

The final supported slab is being poured now. Tower crane will start to be removed in 1 month.

What's at the top? Some sort of common space or fancy townhouses in the sky?

230Roberto Aug 3, 2018 8:24 AM

So this is now topped out?

The top is 4 two-story penthouses.

Essex really making a splash from Lolla this year. Much more noticeable than, say, NEMA.

Notyrview Aug 4, 2018 3:13 PM

Imagine the impact of Jahn’s tower. wonder how sales r going over there...

Totally agree, it appears to be much more visible from the confines of Grant Park. NEMA/OGP does have pretty tall neighbors though and it sort of blends in with them. Next year however, considering how much NEMA/OGP is going to tower over both OMP and The Grant/OMPW, I think its going to be just as eye catching as EOTP if not more so.

Probably not great. Pretty likely this won't be making it this market cycle, IMHO

So read this and follow link to a spectacular vid of two kids illegally climbing Essex crane!

^ Interesting. Last I heard sales were flagging for 1000M. Lets wait and see if their plans for a 2019 groundbreaking come to fruition.

KWillChicago Aug 8, 2018 4:59 AM

^I've been thinking the same thing. I hope it gets somthing similar to Legacy, but all four sides of the crown.

bgsrand Aug 8, 2018 1:03 PM

Essex was 10/10 until that clunky crown/massing on the top took shape. It looked to stretch skyward previously whereas it's a bit clunky now...still gorgeous tho.

I somewhat agree. I absolutely loved everything about this tower until the boxy hat it was given. In looking at the renderings, it shouldn't come as a surprise because they definitely show the outcropping. However, the renderings are all at an angle and not from Le Baron's coveted perch. It might just be this angle that I don't absolutely love.

All that said, it's a minor complaint. The tower itself is beautiful and I love where it's located.

Notyrview Aug 8, 2018 1:42 PM

What a town. Imagine the impact Jahn’s 800 footer would have.

Holy cow that's awesome and for the price of it i wouldn't want to see a window washer ever! I also would have the terrace landscaped so my dogs could roam freely.

You're not worried your dog would jump down 50 stories?

It sure is. I love that mural.

I have a chance to spend some time here in Chicago this week and seeing Essex in person today for the first time since last December I can't believe how far along it is. I think this building is the real game changer from this cycle. It looms over Michigan Avenue from a ways north and has a huge presence from the park. It really urbanizes that stretch of South Michigan Ave.

Really love this tower. All those photographs from extreme angles are legit skyscraper porn

Definitely one of my favorites from this market cycle!

What glass on Vista lol? We still have no idea what it will actually end up like since what little there is will probably all be scrapped.

left of center Aug 17, 2018 6:45 PM

I am also totally for a sea foam green Vista. Hopefully whatever new glazier they potentially choose will go back to the original rendering color of the glass.
