all the money ny pays in taxes, but now that mta is in dire need trump refuses to give back. just borrow your way out they say. meanwhile they shovel that money over to his red meat welfare states. very trumpy of them!

Over 500 ghost trains run every night between 1am and 5am only for cops and transit workers. What shame!!! NYC needs the 24/7 subway service. Immediately!!!

mrnyc Dec 8, 2020 6:51 AM

^ 24/7 service will hopefully be back next year once we get a shot for the bug.

and speaking of covid, looks like the open gangway trains are delayed due to pandemic related supply chain issues:

During normal operations the 6 train operates between Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx and Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall in Lower Manhattan. During special occasions or disruptions of service, a 6 train may be sent beyond its terminal in lower Manhattan into Brooklyn. Here is one such scenario recorded from a Flatbush Avenue bound rerouted 6 trains.

cuomo and the gang cut the ribbon for the penn station moynihan train hall today:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/video...ll/vp-BB1cmbBD

next up is the penn south empire annex to add at least eight more tracks and redevelop the blocks just to the south.

and hopefully new gateway tunnels come along for the ride instead of just patched up old tunnels. we’ll see —

k1052 Jan 1, 2021 8:25 PM

The new hall is reasonably nice but at a billion and a half dollars kind of an expensive improvement for the small percentage of riders who are actually liable to use it. New entrance on 33rd St is a more meaningful work.

mrnyc Jan 1, 2021 9:20 PM

^ it will make more sense in the future when penn south empire station opens, those office bldgs are built out, the penn hotel is redeveloped and hudson yards is filled in.

Pete Buttigieg to visit Hudson River tunnel as Schumer pushes for Gateway project

https://www.nydailynews.com/news/pol...gca-story.html

mrnyc Jan 3, 2021 6:22 AM

^ well thats great news. on the most cynical pragmatic side, it should spur action. a tunnel collapse on biden’s watch would be a political catastrophe along with a real one. not that its that imminent, but who knows? hopefully they agree to build new tunnels instead of just patching up the old ones. new tunnels would spur penn empire south redevelopment, thats for sure.

k1052 Jan 3, 2021 12:50 PM

Were I a betting man I think new tubes and the NJ side improvements required to use them get funded but maybe not Penn South. Which I could live with given the exorbitant cost and problematic utility.

Phase 2 of SAS probably would see money as well which is good.

mrnyc Jan 3, 2021 11:57 PM

^ sounds good to me. hopefully the guv and that lazy mayor jumped in and took him over to see second avenue subway phase two needs while he was in town for this kind of thing.

what were the odds on that actually happening irl though? ha.
