With this map, it just dawned on me there was a naming convention for the area around 2nd and Beaudry.

2nd Street through there was, at one time, called Silver St.. I've wondered if that was part of it. Anyway, just Emerald is left now and two bits of Diamond.

According to IMDb, Rules Don't Apply is set in 1958, but I could only find Vic Tannys [sic] Gym on Hollywood Boulevard in the 1961 CD. The 1956 and 1960 CDs both list Bert Goodrich's Health Center at 6624 Hollyward Boulevard. Here are the other Vic Tanny's locations I found in the early-60s:

6132 Pacific Boulevard
9356 Santa Monica Boulevard (listed as "Vic Tanny's Western Home")
743 N San Vicente Boulevard
1357 Vine Street
416 W 7th Street
5364 Wilshire Boulevard

The 1961/1962 Van Nuys CD also lists a Vic Tanny's gym at 14431 Victory Boulevard.

Martin, the caption for the above image in the LA Weekly article you originally linked to says, "Restored archival footage of Hollywood Boulevard — Oppewall says the production used a car that matched the vehicle seen in the archival footage."

M'Goos basic signage is there but the Food 'N Fun seems to given way to a cartoon image. :shhh:

Frank Bros was at 2400 American Avenue (now Long Beach Boulevard). The building is visible on the 1972 aerial view, but the lot looks empty in 1994. Today, it seems to be a parking lot for school buses.

The HE exchange was HEmlock in Long Beach. The 1960 Long Beach CD lists the Kuster Electric Co at 1030 Long Beach Boulevard. The sign below has a large "801" which refers to their construction yard at 801 W 14th.

Much to my surprise, I don't believe we have seen a photograph of the exterior of the Colony Club. (I looked through the past posts)



It was located at Western and 149th Street (see menu cover below)

There's a comment on the 'vintage-ads' site that says the Colony Club burnt down in 1962.

-so perhaps that's why it's been difficult to locate a photograph of the place.

Arnold St / Crown Hill Ave / W 3rd St
 

At the risk of beating this subject to death, before Arnold St became W 3rd St, it was Crown Hill Ave. By then the McFarland home had been numbered as 1340.
Mr McFarland's funeral was held there on 20 Feb 1911 (he left an estate of $200K, much of it in Times/Mirror stock):

The area was considerably built up by the time of Mr McFarland's demise. The Floral Apartments would soon go in next door to the east and
the Crown Hill Apartments were already built to the north, across the avenue. The neighborhood was rapidly ceasing to be the country district it once was:

I noticed the sign for RHUBARB 2lbs..5c. Rhubard seems to have fallen out of favor in 2016....I never see it in markets today. I asked the manager about it. He said maybe but his vibe said probably not.

CBD, we have fresh rhubarb stalks at the Meijer and Kroger stores here in West Lafayette (it can be a bit expensive, especially out of season)

I make a rhubarb and mango salsa when I make fresh fish. -its tart and sweet. (like me :))
