Not only does the University benefit from applying evidence based approaches to real life cases in high volume, but of course it gives the community access to the best and the brightest. It's a win win, and I really hope it saves lives.

Well yes, with the small problem that many served will be on public aid and Illinois isn't paying any bills this could well bankrupt the entire institution.

I believe there's still a Phase 3 (midrise) planned across the street - I wonder if they'll stick to residential.

In the first image in the article, there is a faint outline above the massing of the proposed tower. I wonder, is that for what the original height of the residential tower was going to be, or is that what was approved by zoning? Or both? I can't read that adjacent note on the right..

That's not a major issue. Most trauma centers lose money. U of C is opening the Trauma Center so they can gain approval to also open a dedicated cancer hospital on their campus (that will be a big money maker). It'll be the largest cancer hospital in the state.

Bank of the Ozarks strikes in Hyde Park

Quote:

Another Chicago apartment project has scored a big construction loan from the Bank of the Ozarks: Solstice on the Park, 27-story tower underway in Hyde Park.

The Little Rock, Ark.-based bank in April provided the $76.2 million mortgage to the developer of the 250-unit building, a venture led by Englewood, N.J.-based Antheus Capital, according to Cook County property records.

It's the latest big Chicago multifamily development financed by the bank, which has emerged as one of the most aggressive construction lenders here over the last year or so. Bank of the Ozarks has provided big loans for a 76-story apartment tower in the South Loop, a 492-unit project in the West Loop and a Loop office project being built by Chicago developer John Buck.

Maybe even help lower the homicide rate ...

Skyguy_7 Jul 17, 2017 12:19 PM

^... but won't do anything to help the gunshot wound rate. Might even encourage shootings, if the area gangs know that the chance of death as a consequence is diminished. Sad!

Solstice cladding

At least one side will look good (not too encouraged about the rest based on BVictor's photos)

Found this on youtube. University of Chicago Medicine is redeveloping their old Mitchell Hospital into a stand alone cancer center, with help from Perkins+Will. This looks like an amazing change, and will cost about $250 mil. U of C really values architecture, and this looks to further that.

^Glass on the south facade is also up to 6 or 7 now too. I haven't been able to get a good picture or look at it though for the single second that it is visible from the Metra trains though.
