Title: Live! Hotel & Casino
Project: Casino, Hotel, Restaurant, Nightlife
Architect: BLTa
Developer: Cordish Companies and Greenwood Racing & Entertainment
Location: 10th and Packer Ave. Philadelphia, PA
Neighborhood: Sports Complex
District: South Philadelphia
Floors: 13 floors
Height: 215 feet

Quote:

The Live! Hotel and Casino planned for Packer Avenue includes 2,150 slot machines and 100 electronic table games, along with 12 high-limit tables, and 80 high-limit slots. There is also a planned “Asian Pit,” an area that gets its name from its designation for games frequented by persons from Asian countries or backgrounds.

The “Pit” is housed within a 600,000-plus square foot hotel and gaming complex — previous reports have the scale at 200,000 square feet for the casino and the same for the hotel, 400,000 — with an additional one million-plus square feet of parking space in a seven-tiered garage. On top of the garage will be a rooftop green space with 35,000 square feet for 400 occupants, 75 percent of which will be covered with at least 12 inches of soil (and presumably planted with grass).

Details have been scarce on the Cordish Companies/Greenwood Racing and Entertainment joint venture coming to South Philly sometime in 2018-2019.

The project is planned for a 9-acre parcel at Darien Street and Packer Avenue in South Philly – right now there is still a 12-story Holiday Inn and surface parking lot at the site that are both scheduled for demolition.

In their place, according to the plans, there’s to be an 18-floor, 300,000 square foot hotel; an 8-story, 325,000 square foot casino and “parking garage pedestal” (attached building and elevator housing), and seven tiers of structured parking built over the casino floor with about 1.3 million square feet of surface area (total garage parking provided: 3,551 spaces).

On the second floor of the hotel will be a spa, and on the Penthouse level, along with suites, there will be “private gaming areas.”

Mystery for the ages.

I still wish that we would have ended up with Market8. That had to be one of the sexiest buildings I have ever seen proposed for Philly. It also made the most sense from a transportation standpoint: 8th and Market is a transportation nexus. Finally, it would have filled in the Disney Hole-turned-surface parking lot.

Meh, with all the other stuff that's going on along Market East right now (East Market, the Gallery reno, the Lit Brothers tower proposal, Brandywine buying the 7th and Market parking garage, and even Brookstone's project down on Chestnut -- that's five projects! Holy crap!), I'm pretty sure we're gonna hear some new proposal at 8th and Market in the not-too-distant future.

I'm hoping for it! Speaking of five projects, it may be up to 8 now! In the latest article on the Gallery, PRIET and Macerich are looking at constructing THREE towers as a part of their Gallery renovation!

The City should do everything in its power to get the Sixers billionaire owner(s) to build a new arena with a mixed use development at this location (spilling over to the septa stop and Rite Aid, Burger King, Parkway lot, etc, etc). Take over the whole damn jawn.

If Edmonton can do it -see the Rogers complex - super modern arena with a 600ft+ tower development, hotel etc - Philadelphia should figure it out.

Someone needs to get an admin to add them to the Philadelphia Projects main board. (I think).
I'm sure mr. summersm343 would've done it already if he could. I remember him say once that an admin needs to be contacted for such requests (I think).

But yeah - One Water Street, this Live!, Penn Medicine South Tower, and Penn Medicine Towers, should be all moved over.

What admin can do this???

Good development. Hopefully up to par or exceeds the Parx Casino. Good location too.

Those overbuild footings have been there since the thing was built. And Coradino is bluster bluster bluster ... I'll believe it when I see it.

I wrote a polite email to one of the admin's asking them to help with this - and no reply back, been 10 days or so.... so I'm assuming Admin types really don't give a care.

City Planning Commission OK's Philly's 2nd casino

Quote:

Live! Hotel & Casino will include a 2 million-square-foot facility with a Las Vegas-style casino floor, featuring more than 2,000 slot machines and more than 125 table games.

The property will also include an 18-story hotel, spa, valet parking and a seven-story, 3,000-square-foot parking garage. It will also have restaurants, entertainment venues and other amenities.

Each guest room in the hotel will be about 400 square feet, BLT Architects' Rahe said in the meeting.

The casino-hotel is expected to generate gross gaming revenues (table and slots) of more than $300 million a year and more than $1.6 billion during its first five years of operation. It will generate about $130 million in state and local taxes.

Council Committee Approves Casino Zoning

Quote:

After a six-hour hearing, the City Council Rules Committee on November 16 unanimously approved Bill #150767, which would create the changes in the Special Purpose Entertainment District (SP-ENT) zoning regulations needed to build the $450 million Live! Hotel and Casino at 900 Packer Avenue, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. The bill now goes to the full Council.

Stadium Casino L.L.C., a partnership between the Cordish Companies of Baltimore and Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment, also has won approval from the Philadelphia City Planning Commission and five community organizations in neighborhoods near the site, the article noted.

Being a Phillies season ticket holder (sorry), looking forward to this. I could see a ballgame, dinner at the casino, a little gambling and a comp room in my future. :)

I liked the proposal with the amusement park. Philly really needs a amusement park (Maybe indoor).
