Another Sub Place Coming To Fast Food Dump!
 

Im not sure whether this is a joke or not... but apparently the Fast Food Dump aka 7th Ave and Mcdowell's North side development is getting a Potbelly (potbelly.com) or another sub sandwich restaurant.

Is this a joke? 5 guys comes in and Habit opens across the street. Jersey Mikes Opens and now a mimic sub shop is opening across the street? How is this good for business? I can't believe how short sided the developers are and why they are not curating the shops that go in here. Seems Stupid Beyond Belief.

Next will a Ponchos Open instead of NYPD Pizza to Compete with Chipotle?

Nope, not a joke. Potbelly's was anounced a few weeks ago. BTW its not a mimic sub shop. They sell sandwiches, pretty good sandwiches in fact. Potbelly's has been around for a long time and i'm glad they chose that location for establishing a presence in Arizona.

It seems to me as if this is great for business and not stupid beyond belief; there is a strong demand for more restaurants. The places are always packed. The developers seem to be pretty smart in my opinion.

Potbelly's already has an established presence in Arizona on Camelback Rd. And you are right, it isn't a sub shop but pretty good sandwiches. The selling point for Potbelly's is that they make Mediterranean and Italian sandwiches. I ate at this place a few times in NYC.

20st St and Camelback. The grand opening is in August I think...guess I shouldn't say they have an established presence but the Camelback location will be the first one to open in Arizona.

potbelly is just a shitty Schlotzky's.

While we're on the topic of 7th and McDowell, a sign just went up on the SE corner for "The Joint." It appears to be a chain/franchise chiropractor's office.

Scholtzsky's is gross! I can't stand their bread! Have to pour hot sauce all over their sandwiches to give it some flavor...to each his own.

I pour hot sauce all over everything anyway... Schlotzky's with hot sauce is better thjan Potbelly's with hot sauce.

I don't get the hand wringing about similar place being close to each other. Does the area have a large lunch crowd? Within 1/2 mile (about) of my office is the Park Central Deli, Duck and Decanter, Schlotzkys, Subway, Best of Philly, and (Another deli/sandwich place in the lobby of the 3300 building, can't think of the name). All "sandwich" shops within 1/2 mile of each other.

Craig DeMarco is adding yet another restaurant to his north central Phoenix stable.

He and his Upward Projects partners - wife Kris DeMarco, and Lauren and Wyatt Bailey - have taken over Aiello's, at 5202 N. Central Ave., just north of Camelback Road. That will bring the total number of Upward Projects restaurants in the neighborhood to five.

Three of them are already up-and-running: Postino Central, Windsor and Churn. (The company also operates two other Postinos, in Arcadia and the East Valley.)

And back in May, Upward Projects announced that it would be putting a restaurant into the former First Federal Savings & Loan Bank building, just north of Aiello's at 5210 N. Central Ave. Scheduled to open at the end of 2012, right now that restaurant has neither a name nor a concept.

The Aiello's replacement doesn't have a name, either. But it does have a concept: "A neighborhood-friendly Mexican bar with a killer shareable menu," says DeMarco. No opening date has been announced, but construction is going to get underway immediately.

looks like the appartment complex on 26th and camelback is moving fast. assume it will rent out fast.


a bit further east 2 of those office buildings are boarded up/barb wire fences etc and just so messy on camelback. I swear those buildings have been that way for 2-3 yrs.

has anyone been to Del Frisco's?

Umm.. Hello Laura!! Fuego Tacos will be celebrating our one year anniversary at the Esplanade tomorrow.. We had a fantastic first year.. Yes lots of restaurants have left since we came in, but Del Frisco's is a step in the right direction.. The parking is actually free for upto 24 fours, They have been working hard at giving the Esplanade a nice face lift in the courtyard, Everyone told me this would be the worst business decision ever to open in here.. But in the midst.. we have thrived..so support it.. Don't knock it.

Got a postcard in the mail the other day for the new Mountainside Fitness in Chase Field. Looking forward to it opening for some competition to Gold's Gym Elite...especially since Gold's has gone downhill over the past year IMO.

I was a member at golds downtown for 3 months. There was always something broken, I don't know if that's normal for a gym.

New Phoenix USL Pro (soccer) team name and new coach
 

First, just wanted to say I love this forum. Found it a couple of weeks ago and have been reading it ever since. Great stuff on Phoenix development. Love downtown, where it is now and where it looks to be going. Not every development has been a home run (golazo?) but Phoenix is definitely heading in the right direction.

Anyway, I saw that some of you were posting about the news of the new USL Pro soccer team in Phoenix. Not sure if you guys saw this but news came out of the new team name and new coach:

Yesterday the La Furia Roja 1881 / The Red Fury 1881′s met with the ownership group of the new USL Pro franchise for a special/exclusive meeting.
