dumb beyond belief is still not dumber than what comes out of trump though.
i mean at least it didn't advocate murder: Speaking at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, Trump said, "Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish, the second amendment [the right to have a gun].” He continued “if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the second amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know. But I’ll tell you what, that will be a horrible day.” |
...or more debasing... or more disgraceful... or more insipid... or more un-American... or more humiliating... or more loathsome... or more demagogic...

I am dumbfounded why there are NIMBY's fighting this project. For one it is a rail yard not a park, the other is none of these people fighting the project will be alive to see the fruition of this project (100 year build out).

I identify as a social democrat and all I can say is thank god. A record of helping torpedo not one* but two massive investments in her district is not going to be helpful.
*while the Amazon bid and impact was not perfect, I believe as many do the pros outweighed the cons. |
Hopefully AOC will lose her seat. What she did with Amazon was terrible. The damage was beyond Amazon as well. A lot of projects or planned projects were shelved thanks to her. With all of the extra demand, we missed out on a lot of towers for LIC. All the extra support business and economic output that would of resulted in the next 10 years. Beyond Amazon essentially.
A lot of folks like to think the loss was just Amazon, but it was way more than that. But yeah, less involvement from AOC when it comes to adding much needed supply and jobs to the area, the better. I think as a person, she means well, but when she interjects her ideas into business and economic growth, terrible things happen. |
AOC is horrible. And I agree with many of her national political positions. But she's been a disaster for her district.
Thank God she's bowing out of Sunnyside Yards; she's done enough damage already. |
Blaming AOC for the demise of a large scale development in NYC is like blaming a cough when it's the flu that's actually killing me. Her losing her seat would not matter one iota to the prospects for this development, others, or rezones in general.
How the city approaches land use and development decisions has been fundamentally broken for a good while. This is just another example. The run at rezoning SoHo is anther disaster in progress where a bunch of loud rich assholes will kill that because they think their pocket of the city should never (ever) change and want to keep everybody but themselves out. |
So sad that a powerful city like NY would take 100 years to finish this project,
China would have built like 10000 of these in a few years.. Wow, NYC is really declining if it takes 100 fucking years to redev a smallish railyard area. Europe would have redeveloped this gaping hole in the city by now. This is not even that big an area. China builds like 1000s of areas like this a year. London redeveloped a whole blighted area in a few years for teh Olympics... NY just trolling us bad. Too much focus on catering to fancy oligarch towrs and rich corporations (banks in HY, JP morgan, etc) instead of improving the city. Build a nice park, or something in the mean time. Host the damn Olympics on it. Build some cultural ameities or pull a Valencia or host the fucking world expo. Build a new convention center and close Javitz. Oh, but the pooor suitse would have to go to the "hellish" Queens to attend their conference, oh the humanity!!!! What a waste of time that could have been used to brighten up a very ugly area. I hope some kiddies here will get to see it when they are 100, but you'll have to be a baby right now so you won't be reading this forum! Sad thing. Let's hope for life extension. |

You seem like an economic horse with blinders on. That's all you can see. Skylines, buildings, Amazon, jobs, etc... just like Juan Trippe saw aircraft routes, and Pierpont Morgan saw smart investment (shame about the horse and cart, but he was a dick anyway)… very unimportant things in the big picture that is sea level rise and climate change. NY is facing a disaster when the water comes up, and more poeople in the city isn't the answer. NY will suffer and losses will be greater than any Amazon. MOAR BUILDINGS: yawn, more LIC boxes you mean with no design merit. A sea of what would be dull condo towers catering to boring techies would have nothing at all to get me excited.. no loss. AOC could be the savior of NY. Green revolution could basically stop the coming floods. |

It's like somebody was recently suggesting we sould rezone Greewhich village. Say, what? $$$$$ flashing |

The housing burden shouldn't just fall on the "armpits" of the city. Not letting appropriate density be built in the rich areas is a big problem which is manifesting in now the so-called armpits kicking back at rezoning in their own areas. The end result is simply less housing for everybody. |

thankfully in the end it looks like nyc still grabbed up around half that amazon work anyway, to be scattered around hudson yards. nashville got the rest, which is going to a hideous office park development. meh.
