-- Flower runs north across 3rd near the center of the image. Note Cinnabar running parallel and 2nd/Hope/retaining wall at upper right beneath the Chandler (the "New Hotel Elmar" shot was taken from here, facing toward us). Now, note the low date palm to the right of the Van Fleet in er's image; I believe that's the same date palm in the above shot, halfway up the block toward 2nd.

At first I thought they were just shaving off the facades to make the building fit. Now I am not so sure.
Were the buildings totally destroyed or modified?

The whole act of straightening Spring Street is a bit confusing to me.
Earlier in the thread I believe we had overhead views of the area....but I can't seem to find them at the moment. :(
