I made a gif from the video to highlight the glossiness that this will have (check out the reflection)

Ive watched this video probably ten times. If the materials are top notch, this could be one of the great pieces of architecture in New York.

So, hopefully this will be great.

Anyone think they know how this will be built. Like a steel or concrete core? Or built with steel beams or all concrete? I think it is going to be all steel

BStyles Dec 4, 2016 3:47 PM

Concrete cores are typically for skyscrapers. It would also detract from he fact that there is an enormous amount of interior space for the concert hall.

I would think steel encased in concrete, with steel for cantilevering purposes and concrete to reduce the vibrations caused by the trains below, and the VSC's exit ramp.

jshdodd Mar 28, 2017 12:22 AM

I really like the interior renderings for this building. Will be a great addition to the complex. Has a strange spacey feel from the outside, but its lighting at night looks really promising.

yankeesfan1000 Mar 28, 2017 12:41 AM

Convenient bump, this might be dead.

If this gets scrapped, I wonder if they'll look to incorporate a similar type of space into a mixed use building with a hotel/residential component.

JSsocal Mar 28, 2017 3:09 AM

^No.

There won't be a hotel or residential on this site.

JZeig1 Mar 29, 2017 12:01 AM

Pinhead

OK, I hate to be the one to mention this, and it's not that I don't like the rendering; although, I preferred original one with the stacked glass boxes, but did anyone see the move "Hellraiser"?

I'm just saying...

LOL :shrug::rolleyes:

Not sure how to post the pic, but based on the earthcam this is making some good progress.

^ Thanks for sharing, NyGuy. An interesting design but wow, what an entrance!

antinimby Nov 29, 2017 2:41 PM

Why don’t they make it bigger? It’s not like they are constrained by lot lines.

Speculator Nov 29, 2017 7:41 PM

Will this compete with Lincoln Center or is there enough world class performing arts to go around?

It'll also be competing with Hudson Yards Culture Shed.

Surely there's enough to go around. It's New York City... just gives another great venue option for performances. Theater, music, dance, interactive performance art...so many opportunities I don't see any reason for concern at all.

BStyles Dec 8, 2017 6:56 PM

The interior is what's going to make this venue the go-to place for Lower Manhattan. There is no one square footage in any of its interiors, based on the renders.

NOPA Dec 9, 2017 2:22 PM

There are not a lot of venues like this Downtown, especially below Houston Street so I think this will definitely be welcome. Also another example of how the center of gravity is shifting Downtown (and toward Brooklyn).

antinimby Dec 10, 2017 4:36 PM

This would be the perfect venue for the Fashion Week shows that are currently homeless and nomadic.

Conde Nast is already next door.

This building is beautiful (almost as if it is a sculpture) but I worry about how uninviting it could be from most sides. It could have the same bleakness that Lincoln Center gets criticized for.

Deal reached to bring long-awaited performing arts center to WTC

https://s13.therealdeal.com/trd/up/2...ts-650x432.jpg

Quote:

The Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center will make it to the World Trade Center following an agreement between the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, according to an announcement from Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office.

Squabbles between the two groups had previously threatened to derail funding for the performing arts center, as the Port Authority had refused to relinquish control over the land for the center until it was paid for the below-grade work required to prep the site. The agency argued it was owed $67 million for the work, while the LMDC argued it was owed $45 million.

Under the agreement, the Port Authority will accept $48 million in funding from the LMDC to cover below-ground construction costs. Work on the below-grade structure for the center should be finished by the end of the year.

The agreement also calls for the Port Authority to enter into a 99-year lease with the performing arts center for $1 per year. This lease includes an extension option for an additional 99 years under the same terms and an option for the Port Authority to transfer the site to the performing arts center itself.

The agency’s board of directors ratified the agreement on Thursday.

The center will span 200,000 square feet and include three theaters, rehearsal space, a gift shop and a restaurant. Its boundaries will be Vesey, Greenwich and Fulton streets, along with the newly created Washington Place Plaza.

Is this building's height going to be as tall as the base of 1WTC? Also what designation does this building have? Will it be 5WTC or 6WTC?

It won't have a WTC # designation as far as I know. 5 WTC is "reserved" for the plot formerly occupied by the Deutsche Bank Building. 6 WTC is not intended for use, and I don't think they'd use it for the PAC since it's named after a person and has a very specific use.

winlinmac001 Sep 12, 2018 12:30 AM

They should just label the PAC as 6 WTC. Would just make everything sound more complete. :haha:

You mean like how the original 3 WTC Was the Vista/Marriott Hotel?

Building numbers do not affect the official name of a building. Calling it 6 WTC would only apply to the site plan of the campus. Considering it's been a part of the plan since its earliest inceptions it doesn't sound completely unreasonable.

this is above street level but no progress vertically, sadly earthcam is down and we cant see any activity in the inside, unless you get to be on a high floor of the nearby buildings.

Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center Tops Out In The Financial District

https://newyorkyimby.com/wp-content/...157806449.jpeg

Quote:

The Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center has topped out in the World Trade Center complex as steel assembly continues. The 138-foot-tall Financial District structure is designed by REX with Davis Brody Bond Architects as the executive architect and developed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Recent photos from Three World Trade Center and atop Greenwich Street reveal the scope of the performing arts center’s frame. The V-shaped diagonal members and cubic outline is clearly visible.

Progress on the main entrance is also moving along steadily. The grand staircase has not been fully assembled yet, but the steel members that support the bottom of the steps are partially in place. To the east is a sloped triangular surface topped with sheet metal, most likely awaiting the placement of steel and concrete. The final marble cladding will then be installed directly above, as well as on the rest of the building’s exterior walls.
