This photo is awesome AF. This is the first major new downtown rail terminal built in almost a century in the US.

Also, I will say that the tilt-up casting system designed by SOM for all the structural components is ingenious. The stations will be unique and architecturally distinctive using the same technique that Wal-Mart uses to build stores cheaply. It's like using this power for good instead of evil...

It also harks back to the original creation of Metrorail, where Harry Weese built the whole system, stations, guideways and all, using standardized precast concrete components to keep costs down.

Man, California HSR is so. far. behind compared to this!

Easy, there. CA high speed rail is under construction, with considerable activity in the Central Valley. I am excited about the Brightline project and the progress on this is great but the California high speed rail is vastly more complex.

Well Brightline is privately funded and they own the existing railroad right-of-way up until Cocoa.
It then secured leasing the easement rights alongside the Beachline Expressway for 40 Miles from the Central Florida Expressway Authority for $1.4 Million in December of 2015.
It will build new rail tracks from from Cocoa to the Orlando Int'l. Airport.

It's not fair to compare HSR in CA to this. The big difference is private vs. public funding not to mention the geography of both states.

Exactly. Also, Brightline is not, by definition, high-speed rail, but higher-speed rail, whereas California HSR is just that - high-speed. There is a massive difference in the cost of implementing HSR, as opposed to HrSR.

With Brightline, the segment from Miami to West Palm will be 79 MAS, West Palm to Cocoa will be 110 MAS, and the eventual extension to Orlando is slated to be 125 MAS. When complete, the entire 240mi. trip is expected to take 3 hours, for an average overall speed of 80 MPH, certainly better than driving, but not high-speed rail in the true sense. The plans for 16 daily round trips is as much cause for celebration as the increased speeds, perhaps more so.

From a speed/performance point of view, Brightline might have a closer parallel in the CHI-STL Lincoln Service improvements, which will, in Fall 2017, provide 110 MAS from Joliet to Alton (save, perhaps, Springfield), which is 77% of the 284mi. route. IDOT will have to negotiate with Union Pacific on increasing the number of round trips, of which there are currently four (five, if you count the Texas Eagle, which won't be running at 110). Don't think we'll ever see anything close to 16 round trips, I'm afraid.

California HSR will have 220 MAS over nearly 70% of its Phase 1 route. California's requirements for trainsets dictate a sustained speed of 220 MPH; I'm hoping the team laying out and building the track structure was able to future-proof it for potentially higher speeds in the future.
