https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/eJlh4X.jpg http://www.erha.org/playa.html " Extremely little is known about this incline railway. The photo (the only one known to exist) tells the whole story. Two cars ran in a counter balance configuration from a Los Angeles Pacific Railway stop at the base of the Westchester cliffs to a hotel at the top of the bluff. We suspect the line only existed from about 1901-1909. The incline may have succumbed to unstable soils and cliff erosion? Legend has it that the two cars were named 'Alphonse' and 'Gaston'." excerpt: "(the only photo known to exist)" -I guess they're unaware of the photograph with the two ladies! ___ |

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...921/qRGNto.jpg snowcrest If I am looking at this correctly, the incline would be just on the other side of the hill, right? . I just tried to do it again. the period does, in fact, turn into a square. |

The LA County Assessor says 200 Montreal was built in 1912 [UPDATE -- After a little more poking around, I think the home may have been built as early as 1904. One source is T. O. McCoye's Playa del Rey by Arthur Bradley Fowler (2013), which says the home was designed by A. W. Eager in 1904]: http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/...psxjpxckvd.jpg 00023000 @ LAPL |

Playa del Rey Incline RR
Quote:
The Playa del Rey Incline Railway seems to have been built during the second half of 1905. I couldn't find any other information on it. Here's part of an ad for PDR from the August 6, 1905, Los Angeles Times that mentions the incline RR is being built: http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/...pswz0vya9v.jpg ProQuest via LAPL The incline RR was still under construction the next month: http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/...psiaglvk0w.jpg September 4, 1905, Los Angeles Herald @ CDNC |
