Agreed although to be fair the tech (urban maglev) is still in use and continues to some extent mostly in China which as you know seems obsessed with maglev tech as a point of national and global pride and more power to em!
https://transportsystemboegl.com/en/ My dream tech scenario would match the Boring Company tunnel tech and diameter of 12' standard tubes with maglev automated trains like the Bogl system to create 24-7 urban subway networks that would run every 90 seconds... is it feasible? Of course! Even at that diameter because that's roughly the size of deep level London tubes and that network is virtually the gold standard for metro design in real world conditions! |
you may not have guessed this — the number two country for high speed rail is ... spain!

Caltrans projected to break ground on wildlife bridge over 101 Freeway in January 2022

^ pretty pretty pretty good

Great project. We need to build more of these.
|
This is probably a dumb question, but: Do the wildlife know to take the bridge?
Or, do they just ignore it unless they're nearby to it? |
From what the animals tell me... yes.
|
Fair enough. I knew it was a dumb question lol. :)
|
I assume that when an animal wants to travel in a particular direction and encounters an obstacle like a highway, they'll probably travel along side it for awhile looking for a crossing so animals within a certain range would be "funneled" into the crossing. This is basically the same as what would happen with a river, where they'd travel along the bank until they found a narrow or shallow section.

Yes wildlife will absolitely cross. Im sure there is plenty of scientific research showing how utilized they are. I know these are more common in Europe and have been around for decades. I know the California HSR project is building agricultural/wildlife undercrossings along most of the planned embankment. |

More airlines are choosing single-aisle jets for flights from North America to Europe — see the full evolution of jet-powered transatlantic flying
Taylor Rains 17 hours ago https://i.insider.com/6170862833f4b3...jpeg&auto=webp Widebody vs narrowbody aircraft Boeing, Airbus Widebody aircraft have historically dominated the transatlantic market due to their high capacity and low costs. With the rise of long-range narrowbodies, many airlines are opting to put single-aisle jets on flights across the pond. Narrowbody jets are preferable for their high efficiency and profitability for low-demand city pairs. ... https://www.businessinsider.com/the-...icket-prices-1 |
Update on construction progress of the Atlanta Beltline. A fairly large portion of the multi-use trail has now been complete (in green on the map) with several major expansions under construction or in design. Light rail on the eastside is in design phases and is funded through an approved tax.

If only the area leaders had the foresight to realize the best use of a former railroad belt line is a future Marta heavy rail circle line. Is there any provision at all in this program that provides part of the right-of-way for a potential mass transit purpose outside of the short streetcar route?
