TORONTO | West Block 1928 | 429 + 393 FT | 41 + 39 FLOORS

Address: 500 Lakeshore Blvd West
Developer: Loblaw Companies
Architect: ArchitectsAlliance

Development entails keeping the heritage building and building an 8 storey office component on top which will house the Loblaws HQ. Behind will be the 37 and 41 storey residential towers.

Building in it's current state:

Now *That's* how you integrate balconies with architecture!

LMich Jul 31, 2013 7:37 AM

However, the new addition atop the historic building completely ruins the latter. They could have done much better.

caltrane74 Jul 31, 2013 1:55 PM

It's an ok building.... nothing special

DrNest Jul 31, 2013 2:23 PM

I trust that the rendering is just an example of size of what will be added on top of the heritage building. Because in that image the addition is butt ugly, like a corrugated iron shed dumped on top. The building deserves better. I would like to see masonery added for this portion.

As for the balconies, it's a different twist on the usual play with balconies we've seen in recent proposals. I actually like this design, which is against the norm for my typical tastes.

FrankieFlowerpot Jul 31, 2013 2:29 PM

What's not shown on the renders is that those large signs on top of the existing building are remaining there after construction

caltrane74 Jul 31, 2013 4:11 PM

If they keep the sign, it will likely have to be repositioned.

I like all of it so far. I usually find Aa boring, but it's the perfect design for this site. Love the balcony treatment as well.

I see work is actually being undertook on site now, do we have a recent rendering of what will be built? Please say it's not the shipping container-esque dross from this early rendering!

See post #12, bottom right corner of pic 2, I captured the render on the fence...

Melp, the office section of this project is high up, not too far from topping out:

They're rising, but the cladding on the towers is awful;
