Oh my word, I did it EXACTLY like you did. I literally cut and paste the corresponding information. I'm not trying to be difficult here, I always follow photo posting protocol to the best of my ability. In this case, I have no clue what's going on. haha. (Are you sure you're looking at the original and not the one kgc posted?) If you have to take it down again, put up a picture that's not a dreary winter one. We've had enough of winter!

Saskatoon court building to get new space

Exciting news for all people of this province... The Sephora rumours seem pretty legit. Found this on facebook.

It will be good to have another 'destination' retailer in the city. People from all over SK will travel just to go to Sephora.

Anyone else find it ironic that the architecture school is in such a bland building architecturally?

Also, I spent yesterday exploring Saskatoon, particularly downtown and Broadway areas. Damn, do we ever have a beautiful city. The view walking down Saskatchewan Crescent is to die for.

This has to be the WORST stereotype ever made. Take a good lesson here men, Sephora is a destination for MEN AND WOMAN! The real gentleman would be up to date on his grooming and proper bathroom needs, not using shaving foam and a double blade razor from Shoppers Drug Mart. This place has something for everyone of every age. It is a massive asset to the city.

Hmmm I think you should rethink your opinion of this building. It has a rich history which is integral to architecture, recycling buildings and their materials is something that should always be done. Architecturally it is from a beautiful era of architecture that should be celebrated. I think this would be an AMAZING building for an architecture school, not to mention the vibrancy it will add to the warehouse district and downtown.

Haha I'm calm, some times so exaggeration makes things a bit more exciting :cool: I just know here in Toronto everyone goes to Sephora and that it's a pretty big deal and Saskatoon will probably use it the same.

We took a quick drive through Saskatoon's industrial areas this morning and could not believe the boom out there. Seems like every second piece of land has a sold sign on it. There are companies out there that I have never heard of and have no idea what they do.

Ugh I wish my studio was that amazing! I think it's a beautiful structure and would be perfect for an architecure college. The building out back could be transformed into a massive shop for all sorts of things then every year could have it's own floor for a studio space and classrooms, it woiuld be magnificent!! Maybe some retail like a local coffee shop and cafe could open up on the bottom *drule*

^ I agree, I see so much potential in that building, especially after seeing those interior shots.

kgc087....our school is exactly what you just described, its a renovated old silk mill. on the main floor there is a cafe, art gallery, wood working shop, a gym a class your and theatre hall. the second floor is computer lab, offices and library, and the third floor is studio space, loft area for gathering and crits and more office space...for a renovation on a old structure they did a pretty good job. I could see them doing something similar in Saskatoon with the John Deere Building.

Thanks for the pictures WoodlandCritter. There's great potential for some really funky and vibrant classroom and studio spaces in there. I'm excited.

Where are you at woodland? My building was built in the '60's I think and was designed by a very prominent Canadian architect. The exterior is uggglly but has beautiful geometries while the interior is pretty cool. The John Deere building reminds me of the old warehouses in The Distillery District in Toronto, just exceptional.

While I agree that the John Deere building may be pretty plain from the outside, but it's exactly what many any architectural firm would desire for office space. Kindrachuk, Stantec and (to a lesser degree) AODBT have all undertaken adaptive re-uses of older industrial-type buildings for their offices. The interior of the Buckwold Building, which houses the Stantec offices, was very much like the John Deere before Stantec moved in. In fact, it still retains a lots of its character with visible form lines on the underside of slabs and some wildly out-of-plumb concrete columns.

I'm at UofWaterloo Arch...but our school is in Cambridge ON, right along the grand river. I'm sure they could have done more with the building if they had the money, cause now we need more space and have to add onto it apparently.
