TIMMINS, Ontario
Timmins is a major Northern Ontario resource centre that relies on lumber and mining…and Shania Twain. It’s her hometown, which becomes obvious driving into town, passing billboard after billboard with her and the Shania Twain Centre. The downtown area is fairly healthy although the vacancy rate is higher than average. There are flowerbeds all over downtown and the main street is one of the few in Ontario to be paved with brick. Oddly enough, brick isn’t a major building material in Timmins, especially in residential areas.
