Tillsonburg was named in honour of George Tillson, one of the early road commissioners of the area. Tillson laid out the road network of downtown Tillsonburg which today contains the widest main street of any Ontario town at 100ft wide. Originally founded in 1825, the growth of the town was influenced by Tillson’s mill and the tobacco industry. |
