ST. CATHARINES, Ontario
St. Catharines contains three downtowns due to the amalgamation of three towns many decades ago. The main downtown contains a fantastic collection of older Renaissance and Italianate style buildings. There are a variety of other architectural styles as well, from Second Empire buildings to Georgian. On the whole, as Niagara's largest city, downtown St. Catharines is fairly vibrant. However, the city is having difficulty attracting new development in the core area. In the meantime, small shops and boutiques seem to come and go at a near seasonal rate while the downtown slowly decays.
