PETERBOROUGH, Ontario
Peterborough is traditionally a manufacturing centre that has diversified into education, tourism, and health sciences. Originally settled in 1818, Peterborough merged with the Village of Ashburnham in 1904. Today Peterborough has a vibrant downtown and Ashburnham, now better known as East City, still has a distict main street. East City is also home to the Peterborough Lift Lock. Trent University, with its striking brutalist architecture, is included in the Downtown gallery.
