Orillia has a long history of being a getaway destination for Toronto residents. The town has a charming downtown with mature trees on the main street and is built on a hill overlooking the harbour. The most impressive buildings are on the west side of downtown and include the Opera House and the Samuel Steele building. The harbour is developed with parks and marinas and is very busy during the summer. Orillia is also the hometown of Canadian folk singer / songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. |
