NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ontario
One of the premiere heritage tourism destinations in Ontario, Niagara-on-the-Lake is situated where the Niagara River empties into Lake Ontario. The town was a strategic location during the War of 1812. Today, it is a fantastic tourist destination and home to the Shaw Festival. Much of the architecture in the core area has been altered or rebuilt from its original form. Many of the original buildings that remain are Georgian in style but the most prominent building is the grand Prince of Wales Hotel, a Second Empire style building that faces a large park.
