LONDON, Ontario
London is the largest city in southwestern Ontario. In 1793, Lieutenant Governor John Graves Simcoe proposed to build the new capital of Upper Canada at the forks of the Thames River where downtown London currently sits. However, Toronto was chosen as the capital and London was not founded until 1826. Today, London is known as the Forest City and promoting greenspace and environmental health has long been a priority of the city. London contains a number of old commercial districts. While Downtown is recovering and seeing a new surge of condominium development and Richmond Row and Wortley Village thrive, Hamilton Road and especially Centre Town struggle to reinvent themselves.
