LISTOWEL, Ontario
Four years after its founding in 1852, a sawmill was erected in a village that was then called Mapleton. With the arrival of a post office, the village was renamed Listowel in 1856. Several taverns and general stores opened there afterward and Listowel officially became a town in 1875. The town is home to Paddyfest, a large St. Patrick's Day celebration parade.
