Kitchener is a city in the midst of reinventing itself from an industrial blue collar town to a white collar financial and insurance management centre. The departure of many of the downtown factories and warehousing operations have left a rustbelt of large, beautiful old industrial buildings many of which are currently undergoing a transformation to fashionable loft housing. The downtown core has experienced a growth period with the building of modernist and post-modern skyscrapers and a new city hall. There are Italianite and Renaissance styled buildings in the core as well as some unique Italian VIlla, Art Moderne, and Art Deco pieces. . |
