COBOURG, Ontario
Cobourg is a historic shipping centre with almost no trace of industry left on its waterfront. The harbour is now overlooked by condominiums and attracts boaters and tourists. King Street is lined with well-maintained Victorian buildings, the highlight is Victoria Hall. This imposing Palladian building was built in the 1850s; at the time it was hoped that Cobourg would become the capital of Upper Canada and that Victoria Hall would house the government.
