Variety has published 20 of some heretofore unseen photos of Doris Day today, on what would have been her 98th Birthday. This weekend Julien's is having an auction of much of her belongings. Julien's was to have an exhibition of many items in Beverly Hills at their location that people could visit, but that didn't happen due to current circumstances, but much of their auction business is done online and that will still be occurring.

Does anyone know where this might be?

Her home from 1951 to 1955 was 131 South Valley Street in Burbank.

Extended between then and now.

Beautiful home until they placed the extended garage onto the front of the house. I imagine in Doris' day the garage was separate & placed in the back.
hmm. . . . there might have even been a porte cochere (scroll back up to Martin's first photo) but it's a bit difficult to tell.

P.S....The home is still beautiful just not as beautiful as it once was.

Agreed. The original house, when Doris lived there - very attractive & charming - like a movie-set house. The present owners surely enjoy the extra space, but I think the huge house now looks ungainly, out of proportion. Doris would not approve.

Just judging from the LA City Limits, Roads and Hills, I would say this is Route 2 Crossing from La Canada/Flintridge into Glendale. But this would only work if Glendale was considered Los Angeles back then which I doubt. However, the hills to the right seem correct, Route 2 was a major road back then and the buildings in Historic Aerials seem to fit. Right where Absolute Dental Care now is at 1809 Verdugo Blvd. Someone want to check for me?

Glendale has been around since 1906, some parts in the Crescenta Valley were county before being annexed into Glendale, but not part of the City of LA.

The location is just off a curve on Sunset Blvd. at 1519-1525 Griffith Park Blvd.

The building is some distance from the street so it's a bit difficult to get a good look. (the overgrown tree that has engulfed gate also hinders the view )

The gray building on the left is a gas station in the 1929 photograph.

I could've sworn we'd seen this location before, but like you, I couldn't find it on NLA. It was only today while watching a DVD that I remembered why it was familiar. It was one of the filming locations I identified from season 2 of 'CHiPs' a few years ago (it appears briefly in the episode 'Repo Man'). This is how the Crestmont Arms looked circa 1978.

Does anyone have a photograph of the Walt Whitman School School located at 515 S. Boyle Avenue?

The only time a Walt Whitman School has been mentioned on NLA was a reference to the fictional school in the TV show, Room 222.
The stand in for the fictional school was Los Angeles High School on Olympic.

This is a tough one. At first, I thought it might be Ventura Boulevard, or somewhere in the Valley. The obvious start is the optometrist.

Paul Pincus Komm, born in Kharkov 8/13/18, moved to Buffalo as a child. He attended UCSB and registered for the draft in 1940. He graduated from the School of Optometry at UCLA in 1942. In the 1950 Blue Book for Optometrists, he was listed as having an office at 215 W. 5th Street downtown. Subsequently there are some mentions of him on the society pages of the Valley News, mostly about ocean cruises he and his wife Eileen took. He died 3/20/99 in Tarzana.

There are other businesses in the photo besides the illegible theater marquee: "Gourmets [sic] Pantry", Lou's ___(watches?), _. A. Perry. Below "Lou's" you can see (barely) "Dr. Paul Komm."

I think the address could be found SFV directories which don't seem to be online. EDIT: oops, it looks like I had the right boulevard, but the wrong city. The 1963 Oxnard city directory has the following:

Komm Paul optom 2173 Ventura blvd (Cam) r North Hollywood

and

Lou's Jewelers (Louis S Garnica) 2171 Ventura blvd (Cam)

The Valley Theatre is not the one in the picture; it was further east.
