Thank GW....how'd you find out?...did you locate his name in one of the directories)

_

I'm hoping someone can locate the address for this one.

"Lampman House, Central Santa Monica Ca" [1915] (I'm not sure what the seller means by 'central' Santa Monica)

found on ebay quite awhile ago

It's a great pic even without the address.

(obviously it's 85 something...unless that's the neighbor's mail box)

while we are in Santa Monica......

I don't believe I've ever heard of the Bow & Arrow. (1950s?)

Do you suppose they had arrow swizzle sticks?

Lunch Wagon at Lockheed Plant. A well known Ansel Adams photo, one of a large series of street shots he did here in 1939.

It looks like the Bow & Arrow may have been connected with the Wm Tell Motel and Apartments a few doors down. This matchbook is dated as 1950s by the seller.

eBay

As Scottish comedian Billy Connolly once said, "My definition of an intellectual is someone who can listen to the William Tell Overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger." A very silmilar quote seems to be attributed to Dan Rather, but as Abraham Lincoln said, "The problem with quotes on the Internet is that it is hard to verify their authenticity."

Very interesting information Hoss.

I was thinking 'Cowboys & Indians'....not William Tell. That was a complete surprise.

ScottyB, that 'mystery' movie set photo has intrigued me for quite some time.
(if I remember correctly, BRR posted it a couple months back) I tried to figure out the location then but I kept hitting 'road blocks'.

I'm not sure why, but I immediately thought it looked like a location photograph as opposed to a movie studio. (even though the building on the right
has a sign that says 'film lab') --which begs the question; did studios set up film labs on location shoots?

I thought the tall gentleman on the right might be a young Edward Everett Horton. (note the film laboratory sign behind the camera)

detail

In 1923 Mr. Horton appeared in an early version of 'Ruggles of Red Gap' (which filmed on location in Eureka California).
-but there was something in my findings that led me to believe this wasn't a photo from that production) I can't remember why.

These two attractive people on the left also caught my eye.

detail

To me the man looks like a boxer. (1920s boxers frequently showed up on film)
Does he look familiar to anyone? ....does she?

As for these two....

detail

The young lady looks somewhat familiar (Mary Miles Minter?) & for some reason I keep thinking the mustached actor might be a woman in drag.

...there's also a 'priest' in the photo.

doing something priest-like(?) with his hands.

One last thing; judging by the various costumes, do you think it's possible the actors are from different movies productions?
(which would throw the location back to a studio lot)

See the whole photograph LARGE here: (ScottyB included the link as well)
http://cdm16003.contentdm.oclc.org/c...d/2971/rec/200

p.s. ScottyB, is my Mary Miles Minter your Mary Pickford? (I'm not sure which one you thought was Ms.Pickford)

yes, that's who I was looking at. Old Hollywood characters are not my strong suit! Sorry for the repost, but the photo certainly does have some interesting elements.

Not to be pedantic, but didn't William Tell use a crossbow?

Yep JMR, he used a crossbow.

Have we seen the Airport (c.p.) Motel on 28th and Pico?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Matchbook-Co...oAAOSw2RdZgOkC

the matchbook also included this map.

-I was surprised to see the 2nd location is the 'Airport Trailer Park'.
__

I thought the Airport Trailer Park might be the one shown below. (seen in the early days of the thread)

Ansel Adams 1940

But the name of this trailer park was the Olympic Trailer Court....also in Santa Monica.

Not my area of expertise (as if I have one) but my understanding is the placard is the route placard and describes the major streets, avenues and boulevards to be traversed by this car. Hence one can see this car will ultimately course along Sunset until it reaches the fork with Hollywood Boulevard (at about Hillhurst) where it will continue on Hollywood Boulevard to N Gardner Street. I think the placard would then be changed to describe the car continuing to the WeHo yard. But, I suppose it's possible the car would reverse course and return to 5th and Hill Streets by the same route. I'm prepared to be corrected by someone with more insight into the local rail business.

Thanks so much for your Schulman selections - daily for 7 months is a testament to his work and yours!

The ebay seller says this photograph might be of Los Angeles.

It's such a great photograph but I can't figure out what's being constructed. ( it almost looks like they're constructing an elevated track )

details here:

Hey, thanks Tourmaline. That was fast!

Any idea what's being constructed in the sepia pic?
