In terms of inconsistency it’s even worse for Sir John A. who still has a ton of very busy fast food restaurant locations named after him (much more visible than any statues!)

Yes, now it is rue Atateken:

Gatineau also banished the name Amherst.

Canada has sizeable East and Southeast Asian, South Asian and Black minorities.

Britain has sizeable South Asian and Black minorities but few East and Southeast Asians.

Australia's minorities are mostly East and Southeast Asian, a bit less South Asian and very few Black immigrants.

It's interesting Canada has the most south Asians. You would think Australia and England would have much more. Australia for being closer and England for having direct historical ties to the region. Canada is the furthest away.

The Restaurant is Mc and the first Canadian PM is Mac

McDonald is of either Scottish or Irish origin and MacDonald/Macdonald is always of Scottish origin.

I didn't know that either. The most recent wave of immigrants has been largely South Asian and they make up a sizable community in Timmins and are quite noticeable even in smaller towns in Northern Ontario. So maybe I shouldn't be so surprised.

Was able to find some more detailed write-in figures in the "other Asian" category which includes both East and South Asians.

Asian population, England and Wales

Indian 1,864,318 3.1%
Pakistani 1,578,819 2.7%
Bangladeshi 644,881 1.1%
Chinese 445,646 0.7%
Other Asian 972,783 1.6%

Other Asian write-in responses:

Filipino 162,138
Sri Lankan 149,239
Nepali 88,461
Tamil 45,863
Kashmiri 39,268
Vietnamese 37,458
Japanese 29,510
Sikh 22,814
Korean 21,118

So about 7-8% of the population is South Asian.

There's a little under 2 million more in the UK. Percentage of the population is similar though.

Canada looks more and more like India with each passing year. I'm not surprised.

Canada will start letting in half a million immigrants each year for the next few years. The bulk of them will be Indian.

Overall Canada is about 10% less white than either Australia or the UK. UK and Australia are about 80%, Canada around 70%.

Desi percentages are similar in Canada & the UK , but Canada has a larger proportion of East Asians (and West Asians to a lesser extent) & Filipinos
