Great pictures. You'll have to tell me more about Hamilton neighborhoods over the next year; I plan on doing some photo threads myself when I go back up to Buffalo/Port Colborne next Summer.

I like the little Victorian houses. They are typical Ontario.

The rowhouses in pictures 9 & 10 look like rowhouse styles found here in Wilmington or in other Mid-Atlantic cities like Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Camden. Pittsburgh also has rowhouses like that, and the ugly colors of browns, reds, and oranges are the same colors you would find in Pittsburgh as well.

^^ Corktown is absolutely littered w/ row houses! They're great... and cheap.
One sold down the street from my condo for $147,000(ish). A smimalr size/style row house in downtown Toronto would be like $450,000.

If you're planning "neighbourhood tours" in Hamilton when u come to Niagara, definately use Flar's set of photothreads as a tour guideline. He always picks the most interesting hoods... ones which everyone can (and should) visit.

Any plans of suburban hoods, Flar?? hehe

There are lots of rowhouses and rows of houses in Corktown. There would probably be a lot more, it looks like around half of Corktown was demolished in the 60's and 70's for dozens of slab highrises. The old houses were probably considered Victorian rot and expendable. The highrises are mostly ugly, but the neighbourhood's high density also has its benefits too.

Even though Corktown's not exclusively Irish anymore, I agree more should be done to exploit that heritage.

Thanks!

Corktown or the Irish had a huge impact on Hamilton's history. Many of the new Irish settled in Hamilton to work at the steel mills. Many of the rowhouses companies built for the Irish workers. Soon pubs got built. It's rich in history.

The Irish took a lot of crap from being blamed for the Spanish Influenza outbreak and the Cholrea Epidemic, hundreds died and all buried at Burlington Heights. If you ever wonder why it's hilly at Burlington Heights you'll understand now, mass burial sites.

Great photos as always... you captured me and a huge group of friends on the judge patio... you missed my house by about 3 feet though ;-)

I'll be sharing this thread with everyone I know!

If I wanted to get one or two of your photos printed full-res, how would that work? :-p

Wish we would have shamrock street signs for Corktown. Perhaps paint the streetlights green too.

Augusta is looking great, a new Hess Village on the rise.
It only took 13 years, but there's Corktown shamrock street signs now. They're really impressive actually.
