That top pic makes me think of Dallas or Atlanta, or Charlotte or something. And it's not even finished yet.

Thanks!

Solo and Citi look like the same project in that shot - rectilinear on left, curved cornices on right.

The rent increases in Brentwood have been nothing short of astonishing.

My neighbors unit when I first moved into my condo back in end of 2009 was renting for $1600.

Its currently tenanted for $2200.

Now that the crane has come down and we can see the tower in its complete "beauty", I have to say that the second tower turned our pretty damn bad. Especially the highly visible crown is among the most horrible I know off. Like what the hell were they thinking? Were they ransomed to spend all the remaining spandrel somewhere?

The first tower is much better than the second one and it is a crying shame that this ugly tower (and its crown) will remain so visible even when more towers will go up around it.

That's still much better of a deal than the idiot that is trying to get $5,995 from a "36th" floor (more likely ~30th floor) unit. Sure, it's 1780 sqft (counting some balcony space, I am sure) and comes with some bullshit furniture, but that price is a joke for Burnaby. I pay much less for a ~ same size penthouse suite with five times larger private patio.

In addition, a $200 move-in fee and $295 move-out/cleaning fee. LOL.

I agree, that big, boxy, and bland crown throws the aesthetics of the building completely off.

I live in Stratus. The strata imposes a $200 move in fee and $200 move out fee to pay for a security person to monitor the main parkade gate for the security of the building. IMHO it's too high of a cost, but it is what is for now.

I actually like it - its bulky, its brash, its imposing, it has a large light feature.

Its completely un-Vancouver.

If not for the color, its something that should be built in Chicago.

It serves for a good contrast to Altus, with its elegant curves.

But again - the color is just so blah.

I don't mind the boxy top.
The cornice should have been one level higher though for proportions.

I like it better than the crown on the first one because the "sail" designs for crowns tend to have a "bad" angle to them i.e. doesn't look good from the east.

We have similar costs for our place in Richmond. Reason because we have so many renters in the building, the amount of moving was damaging property and security (or at least having building manager there for the move) because people were ignoring the rules about which elevators to use, ignoring rules not to use the front entrance, etc. The extra costs are there because people are stupid and don't follow instructions.

The problem is that I have to look at this beauty every day. I have a direct line of sight to the building from my patio. I termed it the Frankenstein building, a bunch of ideas put together with the end product not appearing cohesive. The transition from the office component to the residential is non existent and the crown is overwhelming to look at. I agree that the first building is much more appealing.

There's a similar disjuncture at the Shaw Tower in Vancouver - awkwardly proportioned base under a [albeit sleeker] condo tower.

Yeah, I don't like the office portion either. It is of strange proportions, just like officedweller says.

Sounds like you have a nice view, sburnaby33. You should post us with a photo.
