I'd be surprised if the Phase 2 of Harbourfront was coming anytime soon, given the slow movement on the existing condos in Phase 1.

I am hopeful, but in Saint John "soon" can mean 10-15 years from now.

I wouldn't hold my breath for phase 2 of the condos - we're not a condo city BUT that may change with more development uptown - I would like to see more townhouse condos as opposed to highrise.

As we know, most people coming to The Maritimes go directly to Nova Scotia, bypassing Saint John - now, they will be able to come here, go to St. Martins and continue to Alma where they can hope back on the Trans Canada to Nova Scotia. I have a friend who owns a B&B in Alma and he expects the Trail to be a game changer.....we shall see.....
New rumour - I now hear that the wait it for a "major tenant" and it is apparently the NB Museum and the hold up is the Provincial government. I understand they are set to announce by the end of the year.....I also hear Wayne Long has been talking about this too....again....we'll see!

I have seen renderings of a new NBM location on the Coast Guard site, so that rumour is definitely credible, although I don't have any info on whether it is likely or that there are any provincial holdups.

Back to real construction, the city has a webcam up for the new drinking water plant's construction http://www.saintjohn.ca/en/home/city...r/default.aspx

I continue to be a skeptic but my source, who shall remain nameless(!) is very credible in my opinion....we shall see....I've been disappointed before.

Wow, that looks great. In the 8 years I've lived in Saint John, this is the first summer that I have seen so many owners fixing their properties....painting, restoring etc. It's wonderful.

Man, I'd love to see what those Old City Hall condos are like. I adore that building.

This has been completed for at least two years now, and it was very nice to see when driving by as it was being worked on!

I see and feel the city turning the corner on positive outlooks...it's the same sort of thing I experienced in Moncton in the early 90's...maybe it was the unbelievable summer we had, or are we about to see the once and mighty proud city take it's rightful place as NB's economic and urbanized powerhouse! Rise Port City!

A series of articles this week on the potential comeback of Saint John's Old North End. Here's one:
