I'm excited to see what the skyline looks like after these projects are done. There were some obvious gaps and I'm curious to see how these towers fill them up.

So it looks like Block 1 will block the view of The Bowie from the Congress bridge, and the Seaholm Residences will block most of the view of Spring from there..

And to think that just a few years ago the Spring looked so funny sitting all alone on the West edge of downtown.

8/26/2014. Excuse the window reflection in the picture. You can clearly see where the Nueces Street extension is developing.

The stairwells on the Broadstone building are coming along nicely.

This tower is going to be fairly narrow. It looks to be about 80 feet wide or just about the same width as the streets bordering it.

The tower portion today (8/31). Three stories now! I love how shady this street is. It's so cool that the trees aren't going anywhere. It will feel like a nice mix of New Austin and Old Austin when it's done.

They paved that little strip of Nueces that runs right next to Block 1.

I don't know how much else they paved because I was looking at it from street level. Anyone with a bird's eye view want to give us an updated peek at this site?

Yeah they're doing compaction for the road base of the bounding 2nd Street segment and the intersection between the two has been excavated. I'd expect 2nd St paving to occur within the next week

Nice picture UrbanKevin. Though do I hope they put stop lights at both intersections. One at Nueces St. & W. Cesar Chavez, and the other at 2nd St. & Nueces St. Also while I think about it, they should put one at W 3rd St. & Nueces St. as well.

I'm pretty sure they will. It will make that stretch of Cesar Chavez feel much safer. Right now, people drive like maniacs on that stretch.

I think I read on official city plans that there will be stoplights at least on Cesar Chavez at Nueces and West and Walter Seaholm which is good because otherwise you just know people would just dart out across that street to get to the MetroRapid station

Frankly I'd like to see one of the Nueces intersections like at 4th as a roundabout or to have... Something done because both motorists and cyclists seem to have significantly more... Issues with those stop signs than other intersections in this part of downtown.

Something probably will need to be done because I can already foresee people rocketing down Nueces once the extension is complete.

It looks like they're almost getting ready to do the curbs for 2nd and the intersection of 2nd and Nueces.

Anyone know when we can expect to see the 2nd st bridge go across? Both sides look ready now.

And yeah, all those stop signs are usually ignored around Nueces and 4th. I come close to getting hit by motorists on my bike quite often...and driving isn't much better. I wouldn't mind a roundabout there.

Someone should make a call to Public Works.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say they're waiting on manufacture of something.

I've got a thing up at Speak Up Austin for that intersection but I've got a sneaking suspicion the city has just stopped paying attention to ideas on that site.

When I saw the idea posted about keeping our skies free of chemtrails I knew the site had jumped the shark and I'd have to go back to annoying the city government through other channels.

I sent an email to Public Works regarding the bridge, I'll keep y'all updated on any response.

I just got a reply from Public Works regarding the 2nd Street bridge:

Quote:
"Thank you for contacting the City of Austin, Public Works Department. While it might appear that both foundations for the bridge structure have been completed for quite a while, the west abutment has only recently been completed. A portion of the steel bridge structure, the tub girders, is near completion and will be delivered on or around September 30th. From this point forward we should see some definite progress on the bridge structure."
Looks like the end of the month is what to watch for
