I figured as much, yeah. I was a little concerned about the news about possibly moving airlines to the South Terminal, mostly because it feels so disconnected from the rest of the airport at this point but it's reassuring to know that they're working on these things

Holy cow...BA possibly skipping over the B772 and B773 and going straight to the B744 on the route?!? Are you hearing if the possible BA B744 will be daily - replacing the B788. Or will it only be on certain days of the week with the rest being serviced by the B788?

It would be amazing to see two scheduled 744s parked at ABIA.

If you are referring to Avago, that will not happen and we should be very glad it didn't. They would have done some major downsizing here.

In my opinion I think the BA route may have had a small part to play. Companies take into account the accessibility a location is. If it's a hassle to get there then it's not really cost effective. There's no doubt that local companies with regular business in Europe have benefited.

I'm as optimistic for the future of AUS aviation business as anyone, but each one of these have little basis in reality...

As commented before, the KE rumor seems plausible, but a ton would have to go right to see it happen this year. There is no operational reason to start a sub-daily passenger route with a 747 though, not when you have access to twin-engine long-hauls with smaller cabins to fill and yields to establish on a new route.

Other than a brief mention, the only BA possibility is an upgauge to a 777, and that's likely only an accommodation to add cargo. Furthermore, logistically this adds a product - BA's First Class - that the market hasn't seen yet. We may see a 3-class 777 eventually, but these kinds of routes is exactly what the 787 is made to perform.

As for new Mexico service, I'd say that's in the cards for AUS eventually, but far more likely from a Volaris or Interjet - airlines that are growing quickly - than a return of AeroMexico.

Your input is valuable - to a fellow aviation enthusiast and to the forum - and it's fun to discuss things from the grapevine. Thanks for the contribution!

Rumor has it......

Wednesday, February 11, 2015 From the Blog post "All Things 787, ZA841 (LN 11, N507BJ) will be delivered to Korean Air possibly in April.

The rumor on this site is it is to be used for VIP South Korean government transport.

We'll just have to wait til April.

Well, at least the KE "nut rage" princess won't be flying on it anytime soon.

I this does happen...you probably won't. The KE flight would more than likely depart before the BA flight arrives. Most KE flights from this part of the country depart for ICN somewhere between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Non-stop service between Seoul and Houston is coming. Maybe this is where the Austin-Seoul rumor came from:

The article says they'll be flying 4 days weekly to Houston... perhaps the same plane(s) will be used and fly the other 3 days to Austin (as 3x is the rumored frequency)?

Or maybe fly 4 days to Houston, then one day to San Antonio, then another day Austin, and the last to Corpus Christi .

It's not coming. It's here already. That article is from February of last year. IAH-ICN started last May.

Hahah! I thought so. Looking at the date of an article prior to reading it is always a good thing.

I personally feel, following Interjet's expansion patterns that it's much more likely that Volaris or AeroMéxico will do the route. Interjet could surprise me though.

As I've said before, I feel like the major factor that caused the Aeromar failure was lack of brand recognition coupled with a very small network.

AeroMéxico does have some benefits over Volaris that lead me to believe they are probably the ones looking to expand, including a massive international network. I could see Austin passengers using AeroMéxico (or especially AeroMéxico Connect) to use MEX as a connection point to get to say... Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile, Lima, São Paulo--major destinations in South and Central America.

I can personally attest to the Santiago to DFW flight on American being a 10.5 hour nightmare.

I definitely had issues getting through Customs at ABIA on January 3, but in the port's defence it was maybe... A week or two after the infill facility started operation? I distinctly remember the baggage belt malfunctioning at one point.

From some of ABIA's updates it looks like they've already added kiosks, the small number of which was a huge issue that time.
