Perhaps. But in this city, that requirement would have killed this development.

As it was, it was a long term empty building that was repurposed using wood frame construction sheathed in OSB. So, if that's what it took to get the lights back on in this building, a full height brick veneer isn't even in the conversation.

IMO, putting a modern brick veneer on this sort of addition wouldn't have matched up well to the existing, and would probably have been less attractive than IMP

i'd agree if this was a side visible only from an alleyway. but it faces onto a permanent gap in the streetscape created by the double-wide ramp to the underground parking. it will be forever visible from the street on Bannatyne, even if at some point that parking lot next door is filled in.

even if they had used flat IMPs, it would have looked so much better

Wouldn’t be so sure about permanent. My friend lives in Fairchild (facing Princess) and the building manager sent out letters letting the tenants know that there was likely going to be a building going up behind them on Adelaide soon. West facing tenants are pissed and talking about suing the developer, as like so many clueless people before they feel like they have some right to a “view” they don’t own.

In fairness they probably get nice sunset views to the west that will now be blocked by a building casting evening shadows. I admit I'd probably be a little grumpy too, but of course they understand that they can't stop a development because it takes away their evening sun.

As I mentioned some time ago ... the new building beside the Fairchild included the parking lot behind. The challenge was the surface lot is obligated to the owners / tenants of Fairchild. By building up and over similar to what has happened on Waterfront, a very interesting structure may occur with no parking.

A good solution for the developer and area. More rental units on the way...

The architects for FortWhyte have been doing some wacky seacan stuff also. I hope the final result is not this.

I really like what appears to be the original design for the new buffalo crossing...

Please for the love of god no!!!! They are responsible for the god awful monstrosity in BHP at the folk festival site... la cuisina or whatever the hell they call it... arguably one of the ugliest buildings in human history. When you see it outside of the festival context it’s even worse. Terrible architecture, a blight on the natural landscapes of the park.

Agreed, if this is built they should be tried for crimes against humanity

I mean it's a nature preserve and this shipping container just plays to the idea that humans come in and impose their unnatural world where it doesn't belong. Something more sympathetic to the natural world would be much more appealing to me.

433 Main reclad has really picked up steam in the last week or two. Must be pushing to get the new windows in the commercial and 3 penthouse floors (the ones supposed to be ready for Feb) before winter. It’s gonna make such a big difference, can’t wait.

89 Arthur St

Quote:
Situated in the center of Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District, 89 Arthur is a heritage building that has been reimagined and redesigned to fit its traditional context. The building houses two modern rental apartments, each of which is ideal for a live/work environment or a full residence, and a commercial basement suite. Across from Old Market Square, the surrounding neighbourhood is a hub of year round activity and offers a unique urban lifestyle to residents.

What's holding up that front wall now that the floor has been removed? Structural ducting?
