I always feel guilty when I get excited about the new WTC because I know those who perished will never be "rebuilt."

Anyone else feel this way? I don't know what to think.

It's been said that while we can't bring back the dead, we can rebuild the broken.
Personally, I believe in reincarnation. So no guilt over rebuilding here.

I just cant believe the Twin Towers are not coming back. It just gets to me that i and so many other people will never get a chance to see them in person, on the other hand i do believe that rebuilding the twin towers would of been the Best memorial for all the lost victims. But that is not the case anymore, It is exciting to see the new WTC rise, but it just wont ever be the same.

Phenomenal picture. It takes a good lens and a good angle to truly capture how absofuckinglutely enormous they were.

The first time I set eyes on the WTC (mid 90s, heading eastbound on 280 through Newark) my gaze was fixed in their direction until we were actually in the Lincoln Tunnel.

The buildings weren't really loved until Philippe Petit walked between the two buildings on a high wire in 1974. If none of you have seen it yet please watch "Man On Wire".

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but, why were the top of the twin towers always darker than the rest of the tower?

There aren't as many vertical elements on the top part. The vertical elements are bright aluminum, behind that is darker, so overall it looks darker since there is more dark stuff showing.

I'm not sure if it's a recessed mechanical floor, or if those are windows, revealing the darker interior.

Those were the windows for the observation deck. They were nice and wide, much easier to see when you looked at an angle.

The normal windows limited your side vision to about 30 or 40 degrees on each side.

Even though there was no observation deck on 1, they built it the same way...

Thanks for the photo's, especially the last one is good. So weird these buildings are gone. I've never seen them but de Sphere I did, it's all so strange...
