A short distance from downtown is the historic Chattanooga Choo-Choo station, which no longer has rail service but celebrates its past:

It's worth noting that not only does the historic train station celebrate Chattanooga's history, it's now a hotel and mall as well. Apparently, Tennessee just has a thing for turning train stations into hotels. The old Union Station in Nashville is now fancy overnight digs as well.

I spent last Friday and Saturday in Chattanooga. The activity on the streets downtown was outstanding. Weather was a bit chilly, but I was told by one of our waiters that things begin to get active in all the popular hubs of downtown, southside, north shore, st. elmo, university, aquarium-riverside and miller square(?). Anyway, we drove around Saturday afternoon and saw people eating in outdoor cafes everywhere. Very lively urban area, a lot larger than I expected (or remember from my previous visits). Beautiful architecture and lots of young adults and families everywhere. Much to be proud of there.

Nice little city. I’ve actually been there for a wedding.
