had lunch at Aussie's next door yesterday. You are absolutely right. One more giant parking lot bit the dust.

They are taking apart the cranes that have been onsite for a while, I would expect they will start digging soon.

Taken 30-Aug.
They are making progress on the excavation and it looks like a crane might be going up soon.

That crane will be awfully close to those powerlines. Hopefully those will be buried during construction.

They have also moved (for a third time) the crane base that was near the power lines. It is now between the truck with a white cab and the pit.
Either earlier this month or late last month for a week or so, they were having some ground water issues. It looked like part of the foundation was leaking water, seems to be good to go now.

The crane was installed at the final height. The top of the crane looks around 60' taller than the Catherine, making it the tallest freestanding structure in South Austin (other than the Davis Hill radio mast.)

This says "TC#1" which I take to mean tower crane number one.

The crane is 320 feet tall according to the FAA permit.

2nd crane was going up Saturday afternoon/evening. I watched them put the final sections of the shaft up, plus the swivel base that the cab sits on. I haven't been back down today to see, but I assume they finished it today. I forgot my tripod yesterday for what was an impromptu bike ride for photos and an errand on the way, but I used some electrical boxes and posts and improvised to get some photos after dark.

Has it ever been determined whether the overhead power lines are going to go underground at this development?

You can see where some of them have already come down along S. 1st, but the telecoms are still up on the poles. My guess (hope) is that all of the overhead will come down before it is finished, but I don't know for sure.
