Future expansion, bolded, as was discussed in regards to the space viewed in earlier renderings..

I was wondering why the main two floors are just completely empty facing Memorial, it looks awful...

"A carefully crafted ‘void’ is left adjacent to the podium, designed to accommodate a potential future gallery expansion of the PlugIn Institute for Contemporary Art."

Give me a break..

Could be a while before we see the funding for this one. The discussion on it is back a few pages...

Taken today.

There is a big pass-through underneath the center of the building.

Agreed completely. The Memorial Avenue mall is looking better and will be improved when the WAG expansion takes shape, but the stretch of buildings along the western side between WAG and GWL is looking pretty sad.

Of course, The Bay's parkade is a cancer on the mall and can't be replaced soon enough.

They are currently pouring a wack of $$ into that parkade with repairs - so I don't think it is going anywhere, certainly not in the foreseeable future.

Also, it adds a TON of value to the Bay, especially in terms of future redevelopment options.

Yeah, I realize we could be stuck with it for a while yet. Best case scenario is that a redevelopment scheme for the building takes off and involves building something new on the parkade site. Even a newer, larger, less hideous parkade would be an improvement.

for such a high profile location and being across from an ART GALLERY, the bay parkade should be held at a very high re-design standard..

nothing less than this should be accepted:

What is being done to the parkade anyway?

There are some mighty nice parking garages out there.

The Bay does NOT own the parkade (unless they bought it back this year). The Bay sent me message last year informing me after I inquired (sent them a photo of the parkade's current state).

The Bay hasn't owned the parkade since 1987. According to the link below in 2009, Impark owned it.

^ Operated by Impark, no question. But owned? Impark normally acts as a manager of parking facilities on behalf of some other owner. I'd be pretty surprised if Impark actually owned The Bay's parkade.

You have to wonder whether The Bay wouldn't have been wiser to have kept the parkade instead of selling it off for whatever they got for it in the 80s. Probably would have been a lot cheaper to offer validated parking... spend $20, get 2 hours free parking, that sort of thing. Like it or not, free parking goes a long way in this town.
