It's a horrible shortening on that one tower. Looks painful to the eye. I really pity the developer if this is the product they are forced to put out because of NIMBYs demanding downsizing.

To me it is pointless that they can ask for something to be scaled down in this part of Toronto. There are so many other condos and office towers going up that are of similar size and scale within not too many blocks of this proposal, so why the demand to lower height. This section of Toronto needs tall condos to accommodate the demand for living quarters, not a bunch of lowrises that would please a few people.

I am wondering if the shorter tower could be an office building? I too don't understand the shortening of the tower, even though I like how it looks better now as opposed to the twin towers originally proposed. It probably does come down to NIMBY's and the work of anti-density nazi Wong-Tam!

Well at least it's got approval, and can move forward, now.

Although downsized by quite a bit, it's still meets a needs as follows:

Improved Retail Accomodations ( Hopefully some higher end shops on Yonge)
Gets rid of that terrible plaza, which is a massive eyesore
And it should still come in at around 180 meters or so.

Not bad.

I hope it's cancelled. The current proposal falls far short of what we should be aiming for on our most important street. It's far too low brow pedestrian for its location. I'd rather have the crap 2 floor building for the next 10 years and wait for something sophisticated than be stuck with this thing for the next 100 years.

^You're right. For this location this is not a welcome addition. Combine the tall and stumpy tower into one taller tower around 75-80 floors, and it wouldn't be too bad. Still ugly, but at least having height in its favour. As it stands, I'm happy that there doesn't appear to be any news regarding this current proposal going ahead as is. Hopefully something better will come along in the not too distant future.

I rather liked the original twins, plain as they may have been, but I'm on record as one of few skyscraper enthusiasts around here who appreciates wraparound balconies.

This thing is great. It'll be fine. Its 1000x better than the originally proposed monstrosity.

This also isn't dead, Lanterra is simply focusing on 11 Wellesley.

Many have higher aspirations for our downtown than 'it'll be fine'. This is our Oxford Street, for God's sake.

That's my hope. The current proposal belongs on some forgettable street in North York or Vaughan, not downtown. It's about as pedestrian as you can get. If it gets built, we're going to be stuck with it for the next 100 years. This is one of the biggest lots available on our premier strip. Surely we can do better than some cookie cutter 'filler' development. Bring in some design talent this time.

No it isn't our oxford street. Bloor is. King is, not Yonge. Yonge isn't a high end street, and even then this offers a strong streetfront for high end retail if it does ever decide to take up shop here. (It won't)

The streetlevel of it is great, and in the end that is most important.

Those are some pretty small units. (that's what she said!)

Sales Centre Up for Teahouse Condos - 175 meters

http://urbantoronto.ca/forum/showthr...282#post940282

Rendering of the Project | ]http://insidercondos.com

This is the same spot where Wellesley on the Park (194 meters) basically sold out at. So they have moved the sales cycle up on this new project (Teahouse Condos) by about 6 months.

Let's see how long it takes for them to sell this project out.

I don't dislike the podium, but above that it's boringly awful.

Ha, that seems to happen, but I think we're on different pages here.

The podium is fine, and I'm partial to the boxy design of the tower (I'm on record as one of the few around here who appreciates wraparound balconies for the texture they confer on what might otherwise be yet one more deadly-dull glass facade), but this location demands something of greater scale.
