I've been informed that my suggestion for Sarajevo is also wrong. While it is considered a song of the city, apparently this one is the universally accepted anthem of the city.

The melody was brought to the city by Jews expelled from Spain, but the lyrics have changed extensively since then.

And I've been given one for the unofficial capital of the other half of the country, Mostar:

Two of Glen Campbell's best songs were about cities. "Galveston" was one of his top hits, and one of my favorites. But "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" was probably his best. I can't hear that one without getting all teary-eyed.

The city where I commuted to during the time at University (Rutgers and NJIT):

Newark, NJ:

Definitely is "unofficial"...

But for the town that I live in, we don't have an anthem, only large houses and trees:
Why? Because its a suburb.

Miami Vice premiered exactly 30 years ago this month. The show changed Miami's paradigm to the world and changed its psyche where the city actually evolved into the cool, stylized depiction of it in the show.

The Vice Effect: 30 years after the show that changed Miami - from the Miami Herald

It's not an anthem but definitely a soundtrack for the city - and the best night driving song ever!

Sinatra's "New York, New York" is a far more fitting anthem for that city. It's literally all about NYC, right from the very title of the song.
The real anthems of New York are these two:

Correct me if I'm wrong, fellow Torontonians, but isn't this an unofficial anthem for our city? I still dig it, 30 years later.

For better or worse, however, if you asked someone from eastern Mass, they'd probably give you one of these songs...

I know I'm a Pittsburgh guy, born and raised, but how the hell could I have left out TSOP by MFSB?!! Philadelphia Soul at its best!

I love that song!

"Let's clean up the Ghetto..." Um, no. Not all parts of Philly are that bad!

I'm a bit curious though. Why would "Expressway to your Heart" be considered? Is that a tribute to anyone who sits in Schuylkill Expressway traffic for an hour and a half at any given moment of any given day?

When they re-opened the Ferry Building after the 1989 earthquake, a very large crowd stood in front of the building and sang "San Francisco".

For Flagstaff, probably Sublime's "Smoke Two Joints."

If not that, "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66" or whatever its officially called.
