I'm not going to do anything differently than I've been doing. "Etceteras" are still allowed, provided they don't overwhelm the thread.

My job, aside from enforcing a handful of overall forum rules installed above my pay grade (like prohibitions on "city vs city" debates and personal attacks), is to make the forum useful and enjoyable for its members and potential future members. As far as I'm concerned, that means dual goals of letting people talk about what they want to talk about, and helping people (including new people) find what they want to find (so they can talk about it).

For the main development thread, I won't stop natural sidebars as long as the sidebars don't take over the thread to the point where a new person wouldn't be able to easily find actual development news. If sidebars get to be several pages long and/or linger for several days, to the point where they get in the way of development news, then that's a sign they need to be split out into a separate thread. If you have a new topic that isn't a natural sidebar and isn't directly related to development, please put it in a different thread, or create a new one. When I do move posts around, it's not a punishment. I don't keep any records about whose posts get moved.

And all of this is negotiable if there's a clear consensus the group wants it to be different. My only real concern is that I also have fun while on the forum. If it becomes too much work or if the forum moves in a direction I'm uncomfortable with, then I'll just quit and let somebody else do it.

Oh don't lie. You totally have a no-no spreadsheet of all our names and little ticks next to them for everytime you need to drop the mod hammer.

Oh Ryan, you're adorable. Mine looked like that before you were out of elementary school. Believe it or not, back in the early-early 2000s, I actually got suspended.

Nah, I think Cirrus gave up on me. Mine looks something like yours, only yellowing, faded, and folded up in the back of his moderator sock drawer.

lol. If you can find a way to travel backwards in time approximately 10 years to the last day I logged in to ICQ, yes, I will be glad to be friends with you.

I wonder if Trillian works with ICQ...

VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE:

ICQ works! But I have no idea who any of the people are on my buddy list because they're all numbers.

But even more importantly: ICQ works with Trillian, which means I can conveniently stay logged into it all the time!

I still keep it open, mainly because I've found it's an easy way to get pop-up email notifications for a lot of different webmail accounts. Not that anyone IMs anymore.

I instant message all day long. It's called a text message. And it goes straight to the 24th century communicator in my pocket too.

Just curious. How many posts should be in a thread, before a new one is started?
