I'm not going to do anything differently than I've been doing. "Etceteras" are still allowed, provided they don't overwhelm the thread.
My job, aside from enforcing a handful of overall forum rules installed above my pay grade (like prohibitions on "city vs city" debates and personal attacks), is to make the forum useful and enjoyable for its members and potential future members. As far as I'm concerned, that means dual goals of letting people talk about what they want to talk about, and helping people (including new people) find what they want to find (so they can talk about it).
For the main development thread, I won't stop natural sidebars as long as the sidebars don't take over the thread to the point where a new person wouldn't be able to easily find actual development news. If sidebars get to be several pages long and/or linger for several days, to the point where they get in the way of development news, then that's a sign they need to be split out into a separate thread. If you have a new topic that isn't a natural sidebar and isn't directly related to development, please put it in a different thread, or create a new one. When I do move posts around, it's not a punishment. I don't keep any records about whose posts get moved.
And all of this is negotiable if there's a clear consensus the group wants it to be different. My only real concern is that I also have fun while on the forum. If it becomes too much work or if the forum moves in a direction I'm uncomfortable with, then I'll just quit and let somebody else do it.
