Most/least favored cities in your state/province

What are the most/least favored cities in your state/province?

Well this is certainly destined to go somewhere good...

Why not just title the thread, “What are the shittiest cities in your state?” or how about “Which cities suck?”

In Illinois, the answer for both questions is Chicago.

Chicago is known far and wide for its over-the-top, obnoxiously boisterous, fiercely loyal, civic-pride-filled partisans.

But many suburbanites and downstaters frequently sing a very different tune about the big bad city and the nightmarish menace it conjures in their minds.

As a city of some rather extreme extremes, both shoes fit.

I don't know, East St. Louis probably wins for least-favored in Illinois.

Is it not OK to talk about the good vs. the bad, that is human after all. Another way to state it, the wealthy neighborhoods vs. the poor neighborhoods? Every city I've ever lived in has the neighborhoods of both, some are on the right side of the tracks and others on the other side, metaphorically speaking.

oh, please. 🙄 poor chicago. maybe those "downstaters" are pissed that IL leaves them to rot while chicago sucks up all the resources. i know St. Louisans would appreciate a little help from IL in cleaning up its neglected mess on the east side of the river.

^ Well then, you’re possibly witnessing how your first city vs. city thread can start!

This one even has custom made title for it!

There’s just so many people in Texas with so many different opinions. I can’t think of a strong trend in any direction for the mass population. Each city has things people like and has things that people don’t like. Dallas is aesthetically appealing, while also being pretentious. Austin is hip, while also being weird. San Antonio has tourist attractions and things to do, while also being culture-less. Houston is big and diverse but also aesthetically displeasing with how built up it is.

While many people have different opinions, I can’t think of one strong trend for those opinions.

The thread wasn't meant to be used to bash. If you had an issue with the thread you could've ignored it and kept it moving. People have opinions and as long as everyone is respectful of others there shouldn't be a problem. Hell there are threads on here all the time that go left seemingly out of nowhere but it is what it is. Now back to the topic at hand.

Beat me to it.

I'm personally waiting for Houston v. Dallas, that ought to be fun.

actually, sometimes I wonder if IL isn't intentionally keeping East St. Louis and surrounding environs in their shit states just to make it harder for St. Louis to compete. Wouldn't be the first dirty tactic to come out of the Chicago corruption machine.

Surely not every part of Metro-East is shitty?

Grabbing pop corn and waiting for the subdued Edmonton vs very proud Calgary shit show. Edmonton may just pull out their championships card if it gets too heated.
Ditto for Regina and Saskatoon, but I think that they are more friends..

It's pretty damn bad. If you stand directly across the river from the Arch and draw a circle with a radius of 10 miles, I'd say just about everything within that circle on the east side is absolutely horrible. Strip clubs, poverty, decimation, pollution from chemical plants and refineries, crime. I doubt there's another city in the US (or maybe in the developed world) that has to contend with a neighbor as bad as East St. Louis, and the state of IL doesn't give a shit.

That said, if you go farther north along the river you find a bunch of cool, old river cities with tons of character like Alton and Grafton. To the northeast you've got Edwardsville (home to SIUE) and to the southeast you've got Belleville, both of which are nice little towns. Due east is basically exurbs, and I'm not sure about south along the river—I think it's pretty rural.
