At first glance, I thought there was a traveling circus below the Franklin Avenue Bridge*.

It turns out, the buildings form the campus of the Lycee International School of Los Angeles.

The four circular 'pavilions' were built in 1960 as the Midtown School and were designed by the modernist John Lautner.
The buildings provided airy classrooms and were built on a small scale to suit the needs of children. (the largest circular building
you see in the aerials was added in 1980)

Of course, John Lautner is best known as the architect of the
iconic Chemosphere House (1960), built the same year as the Midtown School.

The Chemosphere House is situated just off Mulholland Drive on the San Fernando Valley side of the Hollywood Hills.
Unbelievably, the home is only accessible by a funicular (shown on the right).

*The Franklin Avenue Bridge, where this post began, is better known as the Shakespeare Bridge (built 1926). The future site of the school
is at lower right, just past that wooden fence.
