As usual it's been quite a while since I've posted in this thread. I decided to take a look at Belgrade, Serbia.

First off some pics of the CBD:

Some residential:

Nice building on the right:

But the security cameras and gates make me wonder.

I thought Bob Dole ran for President in '96

A little bit of grit:

Found a huge cemetery in a residential area:

One of the many entrances (not the flower stands)

I couldn't figure out what the thing was over the gates?

The two biggest football (soccer) clubs in Serbia, and bitter rivals; Red Star and Partizan

A great old train station. The first pic is from 2013

Then a few yards away the pic changed to 2014

I was curious about the big billboard in front:

I checked out the site listed, and WOW.....impressive:

https://www.belgradewaterfront.com/en/about-us-2/

Sadly the train station is going:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgra...ailway_station

Not everyone is happy about the new waterfront:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgrade_Waterfront

Here is the area (note the train sheds toward the bottom right):

Hope you enjoyed.

That's too bad about the old train station closing. At least they are preserving the historic station portion, according to wikipedia. Thanks for sharing.

That one photo with the UFO - kinda looks like a leaf, but who knows

I hadn't thought about that, but looking at some of the leaves on the ground in the previous pic, could well be.

I decided to check out Porto, the 2nd largest city in Portugal.

some info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porto

Starting out with the historic Clerigos Church ( http://www.torredosclerigos.pt/en/ )

Next is "The World's Most Beautiful Bookstore", Livraira Lello ( https://www.livrarialello.pt/en-us/home )

Another church, Church of Saint Ildefonso

A large traffic circle with a large cemetery a block away. (Convenience?)

Some grit

Random pics

Laundry Day

More laundry

I'm not sure what's going on with this street ad

I didn't realize people took selfies with google maps

Well dressed citizens

I'm all in for that corner building

I thought this guy might be taking a picture of the Google vehicle

[B]Then I "turned around" and saw this guy.[?B]

And when I got my second underwear flash I decided to end my visit.

Just a single shot in this one in Newburgh, New York.

At first I thought the two guys were checking out the Google vehicle, but scanning to the left I think it may have been someone else.

I'm going with Chester, PA this time. Plenty-o-grit. Here's some more info:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chester,_Pennsylvania

I'll split this into two posts, first up some residential. There are some decent sections in the city, but after looking about a bit I decided on concentrating on the west side (mostly along 3rd street).

I thought this place must have been something special back in the day:

At the other end of the block from the picture above I saw this little guy:

Took a side trip look down one block of Hayes street:

Next post will be the downtown area.

While I post a lot of grit, and find it fascinating, it is sad that there are too many examples of grit throughout the US.

Chester, PA downtown

City Hall (the newer one)

The old city hall on the right side of the pic

The police department

The city's transit center

A city bus, though I'm not sure how much Chester smiles.

A decent set of buildings.

Unfortunately it goes downhill from here:

Yikes, I didn't realize I hadn't posted in this thread for over two months.

I feel a bit guilty posting a lot of Pennsylvania towns, but I've visited many of them and while it saddens me while I'm there, I do like to share the grit.

Brownsville, PA is located on the Monongahela River about 40 mile south of Pittsburgh. It's lost about 3/4 of it's population in the last 80 years (now less than 2,200). Here's some more info for those interested:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brownsville,_Pennsylvania

Looks like someone needs to mow the steps

Steelers Country

Seems she doesn't want her picture taken

Heading down a street to the waterfront flats on the southside. Looks like there was once houses lining the street, but now it's trees, bushes, and stairs that lead to nothing.

Some houses on the flats. Quite a few empty lots too.

Heading to downtown

The Municipal Building (Police Station)

The City's tallest. I believe it's now an apartment building.

Market Street, mostly abandoned on the left side, mostly demolished on the right side.

Much of the above picture has apparently been demolished. the street level pics were taken in 2012, but this aerial must be later (area next to Brownsville Pharmacy)

The old Brownsville Union RR Station

A church which has seen better days

Don't believe I'd walk up these steps.

Going up a hill above the downtown

As seen from this overhead view, much of the hilly areas above the city are nearly empty. btw, the little development on the right is actually outside the city limits.

A couple of pics on the hill.

Definitely a "dead end" street

There are several areas with nice homes and some pleasant looking shops.

But I did want to highlight an intersection on the Northside, 5th Ave and Church Street.

The South corner

The East corner (the old Brownsville Hospital)

The North corner (Nurses' Dorm)

The West corner

I was pleasantly surprised by the Public Library.

Before I left the place I wondered what the town across the river was like.

Going over the bridge

On the other side,
I should have known.

World's Only Corn Palace in South Dakota - https://cornpalace.com/

Lastly, Buford, Wyoming - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhinDe...uford,_Wyoming

A short visit to Lagos, Nigeria.

Looking at an aerial view, I noticed quite a contrast of two areas separated by a small waterway (canal?).

I decided to check out the difference on the ground.

the left side first.

Hospital with barbwire.

Looks like open sewer troughs

Make sure you vote

Large blue "Clean Water" barrels every couple of blocks

Looks like someone is fond of his house

To the right side of the aerial were paved streets, plenty of greenery, and nicer housing

Of course there were walls every where on that side

But I did notice this van parked across the street from the nice building in the pic above.

I headed downtown and went along a freeway to get a skyline pic.

I saw a strange building in the middle of the above pic, and wanted to check it out.
It's dead ahead. I just hope the guy in the flashy pajamas on the right isn't dead too.

As I got closer I wondered if the building was abandoned

The wall around it leads me to believe it is abandoned.

I turned around to check out the rest of the intersection and saw this.

Stamp Collectors!??!

Hope you enjoyed.
