Could be a very long time the longer all that sublet space remains available. Companies may think twice about taking on tons of new space once things get rolling again.

This is a good article....And sadly, I agree! On the Flip side of this downturn is that a lot of companies that might not be be Oil & Gas related, could get some good Long Term lease agreements with some added perks that could be quite enticing.

You would certainly think so. Anecdotally, my employer is negotiating a new lease in out DT office and so far the landlords are absolutely unwilling to waiver one iota.

I know this is a web site celebrating sky scrapers, but I would much rather have a halt on office space development if it means a path forward to diversifying our economy and attracting a wider range of tenants into our downtown core.

Having Oxford Tower be built in a few years off the back of a full fledged oil and gas recovery would be a rather bittersweet development and an opportunity lost.

How would halting office development help diversify the economy?

I worded it clumsily but ultimately my post was about making a choice given a false dichotomy.

It would please me greatly to see a few thousand jobs (non related to O&G) created in the DT and the rest of the city!
