I especially like the Camp Mabry photo. That was really in the middle of nowhere instead of the middle of Austin like today. It looks like a frontier outpost.

Cool photos. I wonder what year the additional floors were added to the Stephen F. Austin Hotel. (Obviously sometime after 1931.)

I like the old version much better because that top floor looks interesting.

The historical marker by the hotel says they were added in 1938.

Funny you should say that cause I was thinking how I liked it better after they added the new floors cause it made it taller LOL.

When I was collecting those yesterday the one sad thing that struck me most is so many of the buildings unfortunately burned down.

Like I know I posted tons and tons of photos, but taking time to really look at each one you see so many very fun little places and neat things. Seemed like 90% of the time I'd try to find out what happened to them, they burned down at some point.

Also, I'd have to agree with Jdawg on the SFA Hotel. I like the added floors better. And I love that they added the windows at the top to match the original fancy windows. Though I can defiantly see the appeal of the old top floor that Hill Country liked better. It was pretty cool too.

A really cool book to check out, guys, is Austin Then and Now. It shows before and after shots of locations all over the city from as far back as 150 years.

Another favorite of mine is Austin and its Architecture. I know the central library has it.

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed them and Austin even if you have to put up with us unapologetic a-hole Longhorns.

He's referring to some anti-Aggie comments that I no longer see posted.

Oh. The only comment I made is still there. It was the comment above the picture from 1903 of the 3 women sitting in a pretty field of Bluebonnets in front of the Woman's Building on UT's campus. I didn't think it was that bad or much of an issue. I'll quote it below.

I do find aggies creepy and cult like, as do most all Longhorns. It is a pretty universal view of aggies among Longhorns. So not sure why that opinion from me, someone with a Longhorn avatar with "Bevo" in their username, would surprise an aggie. lol. Perhaps calling College Station "Craphole Station" was going a bit to far, and unnecessary.

The Chemical Labs burned down in 1926, and the Woman's building (which became the Drama School) burned down in 1959.

Hey Bevo, I am good with it. I like stirring things up on numerous sites I go to, looks like I did here also. I used to be a Longhorn fan for many years, until I decided A&M was where I needed to go, tu did not offer my major & career choice.

Still love Austin, a lot of my family still lives in the area. Went to Anderson HS. Now live up in Wyoming, but love to visit the area. Please keep posting. :-)

I'm an Aggie by choice, and I'm a bigger A hole than any Longhorn I ever met. Just saying... Bevolj, I didn't know you were a Longhorn fan!! I thought you just liked orange cows with horns, thus your avatar. Sorry, just trying to qualify my first sentence, and to use the word "thus".

All this talk about a-holes has me thinking of a funny scene in the movie Spaceballs.
