Developers broke ground today, July 31, 2013, on a 2 million square foot Class A office development in downtown Tempe near ASU and the light-rail line, and on Tempe Town Lake. There will be 5 buildings ranging from 5 - 17 floors. State Farm Insurance will be the anchor tenant leasing the majority of the office space. Tenants should start moving in in 2015.

It is in fact downtown tempe. According to articles from the city and multiple news agency it is. Also, the Mill Ave District (DT Community) will most likely involve this project. Another reason why it is considered downtown. Downtown is basically the area encompassed by the Arts Center on the west, Washington on the north, Rural to the east, and University(ish) to the south.

Spitfire is right, this is undoubtedly downtown Tempe. City Hall is just across Hayden Butte (the small mountain in the picture) from the project. Mill Avenue is about half a mile west from this project.

It is interesting, but with all the development occurring east of Mill Ave, I would venture to guess that soon our idea of what is downtown might greatly change, especially once ASU's proposed Rio Salado EcoDistrict brings a lot more density to what now is a sea of parking lots and further developments along Tempe Town Lake start to raise. Mill Ave might end up being an edge instead of the heart of downtown.

Wow, super clean and gleaming render. I suddenly want to move to Tempe. Hope this gets built. I'm a sucker for a nicely designed high density office campus.

This does look impressive. I wonder if it will tip the scale in favor of the proposed streetcar route that will include Rio Salado Parkway.

I was in Tempe this morning and early afternoon - I wish I had thought of this while I was in the area and had a little spare time. I would have snapped a few images of any progress - that is if there is any progress??? I'm assuming there isn't much progress as of yet...

Tower crane has been up for a few weeks now and foundation work is underway for the 17 floor main building:
