The future of North Tryon looks bright

For years the land has sat disregarded, but the pieces are falling in place for a whole new world to emerge uptown.

I'm excited about the dual-brand hotel at Epicenter. I've wanted to see something built, in that unfinished part of the development, for a long time. This is a nice way to complete it.

Yes, there's a good number of hotels under construction in center city. The Embassy Suites is almost complete, there the Springhill Suites adjacent to the arena (I hear they are hoping to open by the NBA all star game but might not make it), the dual branded hotel above Epicenter, the future first ward hotel adjacent to the park, there's hotel plans for the Tryon Place and 300 South Tryon as well, and I think a boutique hotel might be part of the plans for the mixed-use building adjacent to the Skyhouse towers on Tryon.

There are 16 hotels under construction or announced for uptown Charlotte. If all are built, Charlotte will have 36 hotels in uptown.

Whole Foods uptown supermarket, apartments breaking ground Wednesday

Crescent Communities is set to break ground Wednesday afternoon on a new development uptown that will bring a Whole Foods and hundreds of new apartments to Stonewall Street.

The Charlotte-based developer said the project, adjacent to the Stonewall Street light rail station, is planned to open in 2018. The Whole Foods will total 47,000 square feet, making it by far uptown’s largest supermarket. The development will also include up to 450 apartments and two hotels on the site, which is mostly vacant.

The development will tie directly to the adjoining Blue Line station, and the Whole Foods will have a rooftop eating area and bar overlooking the city.

- The Panthers success this year should attract a lot of attention to the city. I am sure Charlotte will be able to cultivate this attention into future growth.

Beautiful pictures of Charlotte's growth. I think Charlotte and Atlanta should explore high speed rail and feed off each other's growth.
