Kenmore, NY - Buffalo's "First Suburb"
Village of Kenmore, Buffalo’s First Suburb.
The Village of Kenmore is a suburb of Buffalo, New York, located on the northern border of Buffalo. The Village was incorporated in 1899 from part of the Town of Tonawanda, which surrounds it on 3 sides. Kenmore’s 1.4 square mile area (3.7 km2) has a population density of over 10,400 per square mile (4,000 per km2), making it one of the most dense areas in Western New York. It is known as “Buffalo’s first suburb” as other nearby municipalities existed before Buffalo became a large city.
The American Planning Associated has recognized Kenmore as one of the “Great Places in America,” one of 3 in the Buffalo area.
Major streets extending into Kenmore from Buffalo include Delaware Avenue and Elmwood Avenue, which are the major commercial streets, along with parts of Kenmore Avenue which is the border between Buffalo and Kenmore.
The Eberhardt Mansion (1893) is the former residence of the founder of Kenmore, and sits across from the Buffalo city line at Delaware and Kenmore Avenues.

The northern and eastern areas of Kenmore are predominately mid-century single family homes, which blend into adjacent areas of Tonawanda.
