In 1949 a car dealership was located at Guadalupe and 2nd St. where La Condesa is.

I swear pictures from the 90s are beginning to take on that 70s and 80s hue and look. Its making me feel old lmao. I would assume that's very early 90s judging by the amount of 80s vehicles.

^That Lincoln parked there is at least a '90. 1990 was the first year they switched to that body style, and they only tweaked the grill a bit in 1995. We used to have a '92.

Wow - here's a blast from the past. Austin Forum Meet Photos - December 2006

This was the forum meet with the Sandra Bullock sighting. Amli II, Monarch, 360, and The Ashton were all under construction. It's amazing to look at those photos from eight years ago and comparing them to today's Austin.

Wow, time has flown! I remember and still relay the Sandra Bullock story to people I know. Kind of funny, when you think about it. A bunch of people strolling in with cameras. Paparazzi? Not exactly I had no idea the restaurant or building had any association with Sandra. (Bess Bistro on W 6th). We just through it looked 'cool' and urban, with an exterior entrance below street level.

I read a lot of comments about how downtown had more trees "back in the day". I don't know about you guys, but I don't see whole lotta trees in that 1963 shot. Where did you find that photo, Keith? Can you post the link under the photo?

Here's a shot that Urbannizer took of that same view in January:

Is that a cop actually directing traffic? You don't see that much nowadays. Austin's finest do not engage in that singular art form any longer, but I think traffic downtown would benefit from more hands on direction from traffic directing officers. Some of them used to wear white gloves back in the day because it made their hand gestures more visible. I wonder how that would look with today's para-military police look.

Agreed. That's the single highest cause of police officer fatality.

I see APD officers outside of parking garages during traffic time stopping cars so people leaving garages can get out.

my favorite in the pic has got to be the lady with the pointed glasses.

Yeah, I see the cops at the garage entrances too. I sometimes wonder whether they are rent-a-cops hired by the buildings, but I was referring to the fact that cops no longer direct traffic at major traffic intersections where they could be quite useful. They rely almost completely on traffic signals to keep traffic flowing, but there are bottlenecks around town (and especially downtown with all the construction and street re-routes) that could benefit from some old fashioned traffic police directing traffic.

She looks like the inspiration for Vera Carp.
