Looks like we are adding another European nonstop for SXSW

On Tuesday, Scandinavian Airlines SAS announced it’ll run two nonstop, round-trip flights between Stockholm, Sweden’s (ARN) Arlanda Airport and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in March of 2018.

The two flights are scheduled on March 8 and 12, 2018. These flights will be operated using Airbus 330 aircraft with 262 total seats, equipped with 32 fully flat Business Class seats, 56 Plus Class seats and 174 Economy Class seats.

So what do the "tea leaves" reveal about this in our working theory? Or does it mean much at all?

While DL and AM have been SkyTeam partners for a while, this would allow AeroMexico to sell seats on multiple AUS flights for its own sale.

I'm not sure how it bolsters any particular theory, especially since there seem to be a few markets involved (e.g. Pasco) that don't seem to be huge opportunities.

Nevertheless, having more opportunities for AeroMexico customers to purchase tickets involving AUS doesn't seem to hurt.

Any news what the aircraft will be? AUS-MEX on a 737-700 and the other two on Erj170 or 145? Will the new service be year round? Austin1971, there is an Austin 2017 thread on airliners.net and you were brought up, getting famous!

The Master Plan is scheduled to be released in Fall 2018 according to the officials at the public meeting last week. I'm not sure if that was ever officially stated in this thread.

It seems there was a early morning charter flight today. A United B744 arrived in Austin from SFO (at about 02:30) and departed for Brussels (BRU) at about 05:30ish this morning.

Anyone know what this was? Military?

For F1 maybe, I can't wait to see the 744 regularly fly into AUS next year but one jet bridge for a 744 is a pain. I hope the port is taking pictures off all the charter flights, as I would like to see them. I wonder who else is sending charters to AUS...

I was thinking it would be too early for F1. Also, the inbound flight was from San Francisco. And it was interesting that the oiutbound flight was to Brussels.

Maybe it was a charter for f1 and then a military charter to Brussels. I have no clue, just making assumptions.

East pier opening date would be nice, especially if it is way ahead of schedule. Also some talk about future expansion can’t hurt. Trans Pacific route talk???

Ugh now we have to wait with suspense.

Whatever it is, I doubt it's something minor. Why announce a press conference over a week in advance with the mayor and several council members attending if it wasn't for something major? In fact how many times have several council members attended an airport press conference to begin with other than when ABIA first opened? We typically see the mayor when airlines announce new service, sometimes local state officials but I don't remember hearing that multiple council members attend those. Did they attend BA's announcement? Why make such a big deal over when the east expansion opens when they could simply release that through the city website?

This news really opens up a can of questions. I'm not going to go out on a limb to try to guess what it could be about but whatever it is has to be fairly significant.

But it goes back to the question of council members attending carrier announcements. Does anyone know if council members attended the announcement for British Airways? It's the only one that I can think of that might garnish that kind of presence. If they did then it's possible it's a new International carrier. If they didn't then I'd say it's something else entirely.

Okay I know I said I wouldng speculate but, would they show up for a hub announcement???

In any event I'm really interested in this upcoming press conference to be sure.
